the rivalary that started in the early 60s continues....so based on pre release road tests and hype, which would you rather have, the ferrari f430 or the ford gt? i doubt there is more than a handful of lucky people that have gotten to actually drive these two cars at this point....

As much as I love Ferraris and think the F430 is a great improvement over the 360 in both looks and performance, the Ford GT looks so much better IMHO.

Here I thought i was going to be in a tiny minority voting First On Race Day... but then I see there are only 3 votes, so we're in the majority!

    Fast, cheap, gorgeous...

    Gorgeous, yes.

    Cheap, yes (relatively speaking).

But where's the engineering genius in the car? Anyone can put a supercharger on an engine to get power. I see no genius in that, and an engine is the heart and soul of a car.

Again, instead of a chrome horse on the front, there's a blue oval. I'm not pretentious, but a blue oval just ain't a chrome horse.

I've seen and heard one of the Ford GTs running aound north Texas.

It's just flat out beautiful, and it sounds great, and it feels like a race car with the toggle switches and swing up rear.

The 430 is not a pretty car, and the badge can only make up for so much.

I'd take the GT in a heartbeat.

Uh, yeah...and the F40 is...turbocharged? Even Saab can do that.

Ford GT. As much as I love Ferrari, there is soo much history behind the GT, I just want to own a piece of it. Plus it's hot, fast and from what i hear sounds amazing.

I had the choice, and bought a GT

OK, so it's a facsimile of an existing classic, but I think the GT will remain a classic in years to come.

I don't think history will remember the F430 for anything special.. the styling isn't cohesive enough for my liking.

I'd take the GT. When the next Ferrari comes out, your 430 will be old news. Still a great car, but it will be depriciating in value just like the 348, 355, etc. while the GT will be a timeless classic 10 years from now. I really don't see them ever becoming "cheap".

That's assuming that you could actually get a Ford GT for the supposed MSRP. Ford dealer price-gouging (or "premium") send it well over $200k. That would make it more expensive than the F430. There no such fuss when ordering a Ferrari.

Friction stir-welding around the ship-in-a-bottle fuel tank/central tunnel is pretty neat. The pressure roll bonding for the floor is state of the art. In fact, given how quickly it was designed/built, they achieved a surprising number of "industry firsts".

i have to agree about what is being said that the GT will remain a classic and retain its value and the f430 will be out of style when the 460 or whatever comes next comes out.

But I'll say I'd even take the 355 over the GT, but don't own any Ferraris myself, just yet. I'd take a TR over the GT anyday!

That being said, I agree that the Ford GT is a beautiful car, and must go like a bat out of hell with the numbers they're boasting.

I am a little irked that Ford built that car and slapped the supercharger on it and completely IGNORED Corvette, and went straight after Ferrari. Granted, Le Mans history with Ford v Ferrari was a big issue, but Ford completely missed their American target, pretending that they're out of Corvette's league now or something.

I hope the concept vette with the supercharged 625hp makes it to market and puts the Ford GT where it belongs.

having driven high reving engines, torque monsters and blown engines, i can tell you the normally aspirated, high reving engines are more fun ot drive.....also , as far as engine sound goes, several of the car mags said the gt sounded restrained and slightly disappointing....the 430 engine is a ferrari engine, so enough said about its sound...if i could get the 430 in a 6 speed, i would take the 430 in a heart beat....

even the new z06 , with 500 hp and less weight than the ford, will be close at 40% of the cost...and dont forget that last year motor trend tested the viper srt and gt and said that the gt was only slightly faster and better performing than the viper , but at 2x the cost

I disagree completely. I'd bet that the GT will suffer greater depreciation than the 430 over a 5 or 10 year span.

that's a possibility. ford doesn't have the best reputation for quality really, so I'd like to see how that thing is handling in 10 years.

But that would be trying to rationalise a purchase simply in terms of a cars performance.. Ferraris are slower than many cheaper cars, yet we still lust after them, and buy them.. Why ? Because they stir something within us, that puts heart before head. For me at least, the same applies to the Ford GT.. it probably can be beaten by a cheaper car, but that misses the point.

And the F40 had a shocking build quality, but has that changed how much we revere it ?
