Won't matter. The 246 was hated when it came out for everything from a balky engine to the seats, but the body was loved by all and look what they cost now. If people continue to like the GT's looks, which is likely, it will hold its value based on that alone. Ken
how weird have things gotten that people are saying ferraris become cheap while a ford is timeless!!!!!!this is bizzaro car world!!!!!
The Vette is a straight line machine, it can handle pretty well, but even w/ that much HP, i'm sure the GT will lose it in the corners.
Well, the top two golfers in the world are black, the best rapper is white, and we invade countries that don't even attack us. If Audi can make exotics, so can Ford. Ken
I believe that the vette has a better skidpad than the GT, believe it or not. the Vette is turning into one of the better handling cars out there, and they sure have loads of grip. No one argues when the Le Mans 427 Vette spanks everybody.
Tough call. I am not that crazy about the 430's looks, to be honest, so I guess I would give the nod to the GT. You just have to respect the heck out of Ford for building it. Good for them. As for Ford vs the Vette...I have wondered if Ford would ever make something to challenge the Vette, although I agree that to make a REAL statement, as good as the Z06 is, to get real world-wide street cred you don't beat the Vette, you beat Ferrari's and Porsches and... The Z06 is just too much of a Vette for people to get really excited about it, as awesome a car as it is. Ford avoided the American car stigma by streeting what used to be a race car of tremendous success and fame. Too bad the "new and improved" Cobra was butt ugly. I have never seen a car get so much attention as my old 427 Cobra kit car... People go nuts over those things, at least in the States. To hear a big block V8 through side pipes...now there is an audible extravaganzy.
Hey Ken, if we waited around for other countries to attack us before we started calling war shots, it'd be like waiting for Pearl Harbor to happen before we do anything. Why let them get the free (cheap) shot?
Wow. That's really a very dangerous attitude, especially when all the "experts" were wrong about Iraq, which is clearly a huge mistake. This thread is getting hijacked to Politics and Religion! Gary
This is true. Lotus Europas are now slower in ASP than the newest Vettes. No earlier incarnation could corner as fast. Ken
hrm, to be hated by ferrarichat, or not to be hated by ferrarichat. Well, either way, I'll go ahead and express my opinion, please don't hate me. Saddam Hussein is CRAZY! He KILLS everyone that runs against him in elections. He kills people that cut him off in traffic, he kills people that cough and wake him up at night. HE IS CRAZY. He's nothing more than Hitler in modern times. Surely it was only a matter of time before he really f*cked up. That being said, look at what they do over there! They're the lowest form of life on earth, claiming to be religous nuts-- gotta go sorry to cut it short, ill pick up at another time
Well...we have the highest ideals of any country on earth. I find it sad when we fail to live up to them. Pre-empive strikes are immoral, and if it costs lives to let enemies attack us first, so be it. We are nothing as a country if we don't practice what we preach and respect the rights of others. Democracy isn't easy; you do die to preserve it. Ken
Tough question. Having watched the original GT40 development and success (plus seeing the hardware first hand @ Holman & Moody in Charlotte as a teenage car freak) it's hard to ignore the GT40's connection to my past. If Ferrari had built an Enzo with visual connection to the '71 512M then I'd choose differently (to a different question). But that is not what Ferrari does and that is probably a good thing. I wonder how many folks will own both?
Wow when I first read the title to this thread I thought "WHAT?" But after reading everyones thoughts I have to say tough decision. That ford gt is quite a car, But just because I haven't had a Ferrari yet and no one around here does, I am going to have to say F430. But it was tough.
You know, I also have new thoughts after reading the other posts. If I could have any car for just a year I would take the Ferrari, but as a permanent car I'll take the Ford. Ken
There are two Ford GTs on display in North Carolina. One is in Canton of all places (have to live here to understand the humor in that). Anyway, I went and looked at it the other day. Unbelievable car. Beautiful, yet incredibly masculine. Looks brutally fast just sitting there...it's potential power is obvious. A bigger car than I had imagined it would be. Overall, an intimidating presence. My comment to my buddy was this, "If sports cars had D!*Ks, they would pull up along this thing, go limp, and shrivel up!!" Amazing car. Good for Ford and Good for America!!!
the two cars are similar, with al. space frames, new tech., mid 3second 0-60,mid engine v8s,150-170k base price...yet so different in so many ways..i cant wait to drive them both... how about back to back?..thatwould be amazing!!!!
being extremely biased, never wanting to buy anything with a blue oval on the front, i choose the f430 the gt is quicker, more torque and power and looks mean but still has for explorer light switches etc......... when your spending that kind of money, its either germany, england or Italy
I am a die hard Ferrari fan and would love to drive the F430. But to own one I think I am a bit dissapointed in its looks and rather like the GT40 only because it looks better and it is limited production. I am gonna hold off until the next entry level Ferrari.
If you are talking F40 then hands down I'd take it. Buy a GT40 vs. a 430 is no comparison. Living through the introduction of the GT40's and the dominance when they hit LeMan there is no doubt that I would take the GT40. I still see a few orignal GT40's during the vintage races at Lime Rock park. They are just as cool as they were when I saw them cross the finish line 1-2 in my youth.
I believe that the GT will be a hot item the first year maybe 2 for all of the american muscle heads. Let's be frank...... You put a GT next to a 430 in a parking lot and come back after 30 minutes and you will need a baseball bat to beat the 100 people away from the 430 while the GT is on blocks and the wheels are stolen. ITS A FORD......FORD......YOU KNOW THE PEOPLE THAT MADE THE TAURUS...FOR GOD SAKES THE TTTAAAUUURRRUUUSSS!@!!!^$&^*.... The Ferrari is a class all it's own. It would be like comapring an American Express Platinum Executive Card to a Capitol One Secured Credit Card. It is all in the refinement. The Ford dealership I talked to wants 50K over retail. Whoever buys it will take a "JOEY BAG OF DOUGHNUTS BEATIN"" within two years. Guys I have a 65 VW with a 2.3 liter motor with Rayjay turbo and air to air intercooler that runs the 1/4 mile in 11.2.. 0-60 in God knows how fast.... But I don't think it will fetch 200k And if so I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell with it as a package deal. Yes the stats are impressive, but I enjoy the feeling of a normally aspirated engine. It's pure raw refinement. I am on the list for the 430 and the dealer said to expect it in Summer of '06. I have thought about buying a turbo 996 cab' between that time to play with because whenever I toy around central Alabama I get a captive audience around the Ferrari. Last I remember when we had the supercharged convertible Cobra the only people that looked were 18-25 year old guys....lucky for my wife, but not me .... Stick with the Ferrari..............Enzo inspiration........
steve, really well put! when i see the gt at the vintage races, i too get chills!! all these years later, they still look that tough and and evoke the same passion. why some on this post say the new gt is w/o soul is beyond me? the original gt was the most single focused gt car ever made and at a cost that if indexed to 2004 could likely make ferrari's f-1 budget look almost tame! if anything, those originally involved w/ the project were not w/o passion...they were possessed. the ford gt destroyed ferrari then, and will do so again. i do hope ford will fund an imsa/alms effort as i think the gt will dominate...the ford will likely end up an 800 hp fire breather that will be the talk of the race!! fords race history is huge and the gt represents an epic event in its history. the last great ferrari road cars were the boxer, 288 gto, and f-40, and at the end of the day, all 15,000 360 and 430's (or however many are ultimately mass produced) will be looked at as "just a car"!!
enzo inspiration? where?? not since the f-40 my friend!! mass produced, automatic tranny's, and a set of dubs. enzo inspiration...long gone!!!
