OMG! Ralph, my family had that exact same car growing up as the one in your picture. I am 100% serious.

It's that brown/cream colored van in the back though. Same trim. :-(.

I definately give Ferrari the nod over Lamborghini for racers respect aswell.

But I would say Porches get the nod over both of them. I'm talkin abt the actual car you can buy, i.e. 911 versus 360. Not F1 cars.

I think Porsche suffers from its own success. If they only made 100k GBP + cars (or differentiated these models from the C4/boxter) they would win that sector hands down. (Obviously that doesnt make business sense for Porsche).

When I was deciding which to order I felt the Porsche 911T was the most complete car (especially as a daily driver). But two things put me off:

    1) The 996 is due for a facelift.
    2) There's not enough differentiation between the turbo/GT2 and the C4/C2 and the latter is everywhere in london.

So that left me with a choice between the 360 (spider becos the coupe is due for a change soon aswell) and Gallardo.

My close friends sided with the Ferrari at first. Until they saw the Gallardo, when they were 50/50 split. But the decision was mine of course and I prefered the Gallardo.

I just wasn't pre-pared to compromise on the car in exchange for the cache of a Ferrari badge.

i have owned porsches inthe past and haave agreat deal of respect for the company but the current 996tt is a very fast comfortalble ,quiet, boring car to drive...they have taken the excitment out of it.. it like a super fast caddy....and engine sounds dead quiet, even behinf the exhaust...my good friend has one and i have driven it alot...i quess as a daily driver with long commute it could be a great car...but you cant compair it the passion and excitement of driving a lambo or f car

Damn, everyone is tearing apart the Lambo owners. Each car is different and does not necessarily mean one is better than the other. I can tell you for a fact that Lamborghini owners are not typically ALL SHOW. That is a VERY false comment. Some just like certain cars over others. I am a fan of both and to tell you the truth some believe that a Diablo looks like more of a car than a comparable Ferrari, say the 360. THIS DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN THE SHOWING OFF ASPECT!

I think the car you have says something about your personality. Then again I could be wrong.People who drive lamborghinis drive for raw power. They love how the car drives and how you can pull up to some guy in a zo6 and show him whos boss.
People who drive ferraris drive them for pure beaty and style. They love to go to there parents house in there brand new 360 and say "dad all my hard work has payed off."
Both cars have lots of power and style its just whatever floats your boat

I'd bet Lamborghini can do any color if you request it, or just strip the paint off and paint it whatever you want once you get it..

And that Lambo looks good in Red. Maybe its just the lighting, but the Enzo looks to be a bit darker shade of red.

the lambo diablo looks like more of a car than a 360?aspace ship maybe but not acar!!!!the diablos styling is over the top for me...you cant argue over styling tastes...some like rembrants and van goohs, others like Elvis portraits...if you go to concours italia in pebble beach you will see a lot of both ferrari and lambo owners.. you cant generalize but the more of the lambo owners were extroverted show off types than the f car people.. but this can obviously vary

...have a 360 and a new Gallardo. Love them both...but the truth is, the Gallardo is the better car. The performance is stunning, and leaves the 360 for dead. It also get's the most attention....as my two 360 owning buddies just found out. One of them drove the Gallardo, and he went and bought one this past Monday. The quality, engineering and driveability are all ahead of Ferrari levels now....and Ferrari had better wake up to that fact. Lambo have gone and built the better mouse trap...

I have owned Ferraris' for over 15 years, love them. I can honestly say though that this new car is a real threat to Ferrari. Once the consumer has overcome Lambo's past history or fragility and suspect engineering, Ferrari will have a real fight on their hands. As for those of you who keep mentioning 'race history', 'style' , 'gold chain set' etc....none of it matters. The real issue is: 'who sells the best exotic car'? With the Gallardo, Lamborghini has ambushed Ferrari, and they had better wake up to the fact that there is a determined competitor who is building more desirable machines. Just wait for the replacement to the Murcialago...! I love the 360, drive mine at least once or twice a week, but the new Gallardo is the one I really find I am enjoying DRIVING. It's performance, handling and looks are unbeatable. Ferrari needs to move their game on a bit....because the dedicated employees of Lamborghini are obviously just getting started...

all very true but and no one can deny that the gallardo can outperform and is generally the better car, but one must also consider that it just came out, the 360 has been around since 1999. its at the end of its lifecycle, the 360 replacement will have to be compared to see how " ferrari " has to watch out

I agree, and I really hope its a great car. Because then I will know the next toy I want to reward myself with.

However, I'm amazed to see customers side with Ferrari when there is talk of facelifts/pumped up V8's in the replacement. Ferrari obviously want to give u the least for your money, to bolster their profit margin. As customers we should be shouting for more, not placating them.

As a case in point, I cant believe Lambo have the heated mirrors as a cost option and then try to sell the car as a daily driver. Obviously buyers can afford it, but these cars are generally pre-ordered. Which means you have to rely on dealers not to skimp on options, that really should be there to begin with.

So I plan to complain about the current ferrari models, until they make one which is the best in the segment. At which point i'll buy it.

I have had Ferrari's for almost 20 years and I love them. However, after spending a day driving a Gallardo my 360 replacement order just got cancelled.

The Lambo is better performing, and better looking as well as better engineered car. Ferrari has gone away from what an exotic car should be....EXOTIC! They want to make cars that are lower profile. As nice as a 550 is...I often mistake them for a Camaro from the front. You would never mistake a TR for anything but a Ferrari. As for the 360....as brilliant as it is to drive...the looks are boring. The Gallardo strikes an amazing balance between looks, engineering and stunning performance. And don't get me started on Fcar dealer arrogance and incompetence. I have been treated great at Lambo stores.

Hell....I left a 360CS for dust on a mountain road in my SL55. So much of this numbers game as far 0 to whatever and G's, are user dependent. I have been an FCA regional director and can't get more that a couple of Fcars to the track....but throw an event at a restaurant and give them 'show off' parking and the whole club shows....as long as the drive isn't too far....God forbid anyone puts miles on their cars!

I will continue to own AND drive my Fcars....but I WILL buy a Gallardo, It's nice to see some real exotic competition for Ferrari....hopefully it will improve the breed...because lately they have lost the plot.

    Ciao

Ingenere, your comments are pretty close to the mark. Although a lifelong Ferrarista, I think that Lamborghini has produced a superior car in the Gallardo. I was never much interested in the Lamborghini product until this car. The size, styling (..commenting about the back of the Gallardo..when the design of the back of the 360 has ALWAYS been something I can't quite get my head around....), performance and handling is superior in almost every way to the 360 (one of which I own...and think is wonderful). The Lamborghini is more an 'exotic' car, and frankly, I will be pleased when Ferrari start to produce cars that once again really excite in the styling department (I think the 355 was the last 'pretty' Ferrari). You mention the SL55.....wow, that car is something. I have always felt that it looks like a Mercedes that Pininfarina would have designed. I drove one recently, and it was HUGELY impressive. The sheer thrust of it was mindblowing. The one I drove had been 'chipped'...and it felt no slower than the F40 I once owned. Getting back to Ferrari, I just saw the 612 in the flesh, and although I liked the front, once again the back is a disaster. They could not have designed a more bland rear end if they had deliberately set out to do so. Think about it: the 550, 360, 575, 612. Not a single one of the newer designs has a back end that could be called 'stunning'.... Perhaps it is time that Pininfarina was replaced. The japanese fellow that designed the Enzo (fantastic) should be put in charge of the 360 replacement. Any thoughts? As for the initial comments regarding Lamborghini: I find it rather sad that so many Ferrari owners will disparage the Lamborghini line. Perhaps they should be reminded that Lamborghini's home is just down the road from Maranello, they both employ artisans who love their work, and they are both passionate about beautiful cars, performance and take pride in what their labours produce. I have no doubt that if the Gallardo was unveiled as the '360 replacement', all the same Ferrari fans who are disparaging it now would be ecstatic in their praise of the new, 'edgier' and 'exciting' design from Ferrari....! Best that both 'houses' appreciate and admire each others work. Frankly, I love them both, and the world would be a lesser place without either. Casino

Everyone is stating the esthetics of the Gallardo's rear end are weak. Frankly...I would take the rear of the Gallardo over the front of the 360.....and additionally, 360 owners should get used to the Gallardo's rear...as that is what they will be mostly seeing!

    Ciao
