Ferrari vs Lamborghini - The Ultimate Battle - YouTube
In all fairness, The F cars are race oriented while the Lambo has never been intended to race. It's more of a really fast Tank.
They did race in F1 for a few years. BTW I love many of them, the Muira is arguably one of the most beautiful cars ever designed, but then i am biased as Marcello Gandini designed the 308 GT4 also!
I agree, Robert, having owned a GT4 and briefly toyed with a P300 Urraco (you know, to have "the set"), and of course I've always lusted after a Miura SV (in RHD). The F1 car was a Larousse, with a Lambo engine - widely at the time, and still to this day, known as the best sounding F1 engine ever. I think Lamborghini had one or two forays into GT racing - I remember a works 4WD Diablo the factory flew out for Targa Tasmania one year with Sandro Munari driving - you could hear it coming for miles.
No argument on the Miura. There is a video down on the Lambo site that goes through every model and talks a bit about the racing attempt.
+1 The only thing Lamo has one is the amount of times it been going out of bis/new owners The last time one tried to run at Le Mens it didn't Finnish one lap that was only a couple of years ago I do agree on the Muira on looks
Back in the mid-eighties I had a good buddy named Al who was the go-to guy for Lamborghinis on the West Coast. His shop was nestled up in the hills above Morgan Hill and he always had a half-dozen or so Lambos in for engine rebuilds, etc. One day I was at his shop and I mentioned I had a (then) pretty rare video camera/recorder. He also had a Testarossa in the shop and said he wanted to settle once-and-for-all the Ferrario vs. Lambo argument. So we took both cars (the Testarossa and a Countach) to the roads bisecting the garlic fields in Gilroy and had at it. I was the chase car in my 308/GT4, and managed to keep up with them for a couple of hundred yards, but I did get some good video on VHS tape. I'll have to look around and see if I can find that 25-year old video. The fun went on for about an hour, when one of the spotters said the CHP was on their way - some garlic-picking farm workers musta been jealous about all the fun we were having and snitched on us. We scattered in different directions, and (of course) I was the one who got stopped. The Chip said he had a report of two sports cars, a white car, and a black car racing, and wanted to know if we were involved. We showed him the video recorder and explained "Nope, we are just out here filming some video, and as you can see, this car is maroon." He let us go. BTW, the Countach waxed the TR.
Drove through our local town the other night. Over heard 2 youths shout look at that yellow Lamborghini! I just smiled and thought I bet they have never seen a 308 gt4. They are getting rare
Agree. Other than the Muira and the early Countach 400 and 400S... I can't stand them. I was recently reminded of this in driving / dealing with a Gallardo Spider. The car simply annoyed me. Felt like the bat mobile. To pop the engine cover, you have to go through steps that include putting the car in "service mode" electronically. Overly engineered bling cars.
