Hi Guys, Our own "FerrariArtist" Grant Thomas has completed a couple of the Experimental Art Ferrari P4's ... (I did the metal work) and here are the photos. It turned out Really Nice! The finished pieces are Large, 40" x 30", and the steel is clear-coated heavy 12 gage carbon steel. The steel is suspended 1" out from the surface of the canvas for a 3D effect. Grant would like to auction one off on eBay, so which one should we put up, the Silver one (Grant's favorite) or the Black one? After the auction of #1 we will make a few more available if there is enough interest. He's also got the Blue 360 Modena piece in the works. These can be done in any color combination, just chime in and tell Grant what you'd like. Yes they are! The first one (#1 in a very limited set of probably less than 10)will go up on eBay later this week. Thor
They need frames, but both turned out far better than I thought they would. I think the steel one works better.
Thor, I like the depth and color this technique has brought out. I can also see other medium to experiment with. Nice work.................. To me, this is a big improvement from the flat Cav. w/o background.
Probably shows how little I know about art but did someone just throw a bucket of paint on it? I like the metal work though
Yes, paint was plashed onto a canvas with the yellow swoosh already on it, but that wasn't the hard part. Grant spent many hours working on the original graphic lines that went into creating the metal portion of the piece. The color was added to give more impact to the P4 graphic. The splash of color is also along the lines of Jackson Pollock (very famous painter) who didn't even bother to add any recognizable forms into most of his pieces. One of Pollock's paintings recently went for over $11M, but what do I know. I'm just an Engineer who loves Ferrari's. It also turns out that getting the splash to behave is tricky as well, and it takes a few attempts to get one right. Thor
Hi Guys, If you like this piece, the Silver version (#1) is up on eBay. "Ferrari P4 Acrylic Painting with Metal Abstract A Collaboration by Grant Thomas and Thor Zollinger" http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:US:11&item=7357241994
what a team. thanx for all the positive comments. Thor did a fantastic job with the steel and construction. I tried to imagine what the combination of our talents would produce, but i underestimated the visual impact of our 2 materials. Thank you Thor. And thanks for all of your kind responces.... GT
Hi Guys, Just a teaser, but this is what Grant has on his drawingboard for us to do next... Thor www.JavelinArt.com Image Unavailable, Please Login
Really amazing guys. The metal and abstract background is really new. Something really, really unique. The Enzo idea is very cool. I can't wait to see that contructed. Grant, you just blow me away every time. What's next from you? We can rest assured it that it will be incredible. Keep it up. F.
Thor, those look great... I've been really busy the last couple of days, I wll get the requested shots to you shortly (read: hopefully this week), sorry for the delay.
Hi Roy, No problem. We're not in any hurry, especially if it's for the high quality photos you take! Thor
Thanks Frank... Yeah, Thor does an AMAZING job with the metal. i'm really pleased with the results. The Enzo or an F1 is next up.. stay tuned... and thx for the kind comments... GT
The auction of #1 is completed. I've added a web page onto my site if any of you would like Grant and I to make you one as well, at the auction closing price. The price is a little bit low considering the amount of work that goes into these, but I think we'll keep the price down on this one for now. www.JavelinArt.com Grant just about has the Ferrari F1 car artwork completed. It's really cool! Standby and I'll start a thread on it with pictures when we get it done. I may stick it in the 'Racing' catagory, since all the racing fans hang out over there. They're the ones who will appreciate this next piece the most. Thor
I've been really interested in the evolution of this piece since it popped up some months ago.. as much as I absolutely loved the first few ideas I think the Enzo totally doesn't work with this method. Something about the curvy lines of the P4 made it ideal for the job. With the Enzo is seems lifeless, blunt and (no offence) boring. Maybe with a different background it would look better, but as it is its not even close to the jaw-dropping job that you did with the P4.
Ahh Well. Not everyone likes the Enzo in the first place. I've noticed people go one way or the other - they either love it or hate it. I happen to like them, since there 's one in the local Ferrari Club that I get to see and drive along with every now and then. Grant kind of changed his mind again and has sent me the master graphic file for the piece we're going to do after the F1 Race Car... It's a gorgeous 1962 250 GTO! Want a peek? Yeah thats definately much better. Its not that I dont like the Enzo as a car itself (because I love it) its just the shape of the car in that piece totally lacks emotion. The 250 looks so much better... Like I said - maybe such a background just NEEDS a car with curvy, bulging lines. They seem to really liven up the piece - like with the P4; it looked as if it would jump out from the canvas any second. The Enzo on the other hand looked lifeless - still and dull.
