Thanks for everyone's patience. We now have all the databases on a 2nd server. It will still take some time to configure everything properly, but it appears things are working correctly.

Mods and others with my phone number, I'm out of town racing this weekend and will have limited access to the internet. Please call me ASAP if problems with the site.

The 2nd server will mainly be a performance benefit, but will also help us pinpoint the cause of any outages.

    Thank you,
    rob

SRX7 racing this weekend. I was 24 points in the lead for the 2004 SCCA Southwest Division SRX7 season points with this being the last race weekend and after getting here found out that the 2nd place driver isn't even racing. So I guess good news I have the championship wrapped up, a little disappointed it didn't come down to the last race weekend though. I'll still enjoy the racing though. Unlike F1, we get 75 points for a win and there are two races in a weekend.

I'm not having any problems posting. Anyone else?

Seems to me you've got a 42 point lead after making up huge ground last 2 races.

    Scroll waaaaaaaaay down to SRX7

LOL, so either I can't subtract or I'm dyslexic and moved my 2's nad 4's around.

I qualified on pole, but only 8 hundredths from 2nd. Should be fun, it's hot as hell and it will be a 40 minute race.

To be honest, the SCCA championship is secondary to our Texas SRX7 series that includes other organizations like NASA too. That series still has 3 weekends left, including this one. I'm in 3rd for that one, but probably 2nd after this weekend.

So far looks like the servers have been stable. Not a single outage since we brought it online. I'm getting some weird bandwidth statisitcs that show 5 times the volume as before, but I'll work that out with them.

Quick question Wax, Richard, or whoever... I have my databases on the 2nd server, I'm just pointing to the hard IP. I guess the connection between the two is still over the network and not a direct fire wire type thing? Anyway, just wondering if I'll be using bandwidth for everything that goes between the 2 servers AND everything that comes in and out from outside? Seems like all communication between the two servers should be free.

    Thanks.

Update, I did end up with the win. I led from the start and finished with a pretty big lead. I also finished ahead of all the faster Spec Miatas, except the 1st place SM was 2 seconds up. Not bad for 25 laps in the heat. I'm more happy that my 85 and 88 year old grandparents were able to watch the race. I gave them the medal, I'll keep the new tires. :)

Rob, too cool! Congards! PS is there a thread on how you started out racing? I want to start soon, but dont know where to begin. Road racing looks awesome... I am thinking of buying a nice cart of sorts and use it as deticated race car...but I want to start first and get my feet wet before moving up to the big boys. :)

Sorry for the outage this morning, part of the new server kinks. The root cause was MySQL reverting to a 3.x version still on the server when I should have been on 4.x and my config is only for 4.x. The fix will simply be to get 3.x off the server and make sure it doesn't revert itself.

Thaks Brian, your call was the first I heard of the outage. It took a couple hours afterwards to track the problem down.

So it was the 3.x db running interference.

Somebody else will have a better answer for address "Plan B."

Most importantly - Absolutely wonderful your grandparents received the medal for your solid efforts. That's the way it should be.

The 5 minute outage just now was so they could install a 100 mbps switch to the servers. Otherwise I was going to end up having over 3 times the bandwidth usage and bill.

Let me know if any problems. Thanks.

Since this has turned into a Rob's racing thread...
Is the Dan Pastorini listed in the results for SOWDIV SCCA _THE_ Dan Pastorini? I seem to recall he did some drag racing back in the day...

You could find out real quick by going to www.sowdivscca.org and asking in those forums. I don't know him.

    Rob,

Didn't know if you had your question answered above or not - I was in Atlanta this last week - my little sister getting married - so haven't been on all week.

On your separate DB server - it could be fibered or linked directly - hardwired with you app server - or if you DB server is inside a DMZ (for data privacy) and the app is outside for web access - it may be just IP directly internally like you mentioned - either way there is no way you should pay for the data movement between app and DB layer. You, based on our last conversations - should only be paying for information leaving the hosting facility to the Internet - not internal pass through of App to data layer.

    Hope that helps,
    Rich

Good news so far. The database has been up a continuous 6 days now on the new server.

As a minor side effect, has anyone noticed any performance improvements the past week with the 2nd server being online?

Our load averages have gone down below 1.0 for the web/app server and less than 0.5 on the Db server.
