What level of moderating is acceptable to you?

  1. None - FerrariChat.com should have no moderators or rules and anything goes.

  2. Light - No moderators, but obvious spam and content way over the line should be removed.

  3. Moderate (current, P&R, and "Girls" everywhere)

  4. Moderate (current, no P&R, but "Girls" everywhere)

  5. Moderate (current, P&R, but no "Girls")

  6. Moderate (current, no P&R, and no "Girls")

  7. Heavy - No tolerance whatsoever for anything other than what your 10 year old could read.

I want to have an open discussion with the UK Forum about moderating and censorship as I've learned the past few days it is quite different than other Forums.

Why is there a culture of anti-moderating and censorship for things like pictures and language, but no tolerance for opinions (often racist) in the P&R section.

I can't say it better than I just did in a PM to a UK user…

The poll will help me understand your culture and view of what is acceptable and not. Now is your chance to be heard. Although the majority of our users come from America, the UK users are a significant group and I mean it when I say FerrariChat.com should be the best it can for ALL users.

    Thanks,
    rob

Rob, I think you need another category - Current, with no P&R (that place is scary), and Girls, but limited to specific areas (ie Bikini thread). I reckon thats where you will get most posts.

Infact why not be like the BMW M3 board - they have a R rated area for the Girls stuff that is open to everyone, but youhave to request access to it - otherwise you can't get in.

Go ahead and vote for no P&R, but "Girls" everywhere. I doubt we could truely have Girls everywhere. Not even feasible.

Good idea, we kinda do that with the Rossa 69, but not exactly.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I cant find one to tick. I love looking at girls but dont like racisum. Some love racisum and dont like looking at girls. Some love racisum and love looking at girls. Others hate girls:D
One thing to be said about the British is if we feel attacked we will stand together,no matter what coulor we are, while looking at girls:)
I think its hard to put the above options together. But from my point of view, just like Nicol does not maybe want to see naked girls, i in turn and others black ,white and asian do not want to see blatent racisum that has been seen since the P&R section was opened. I can also see that other subjects in the P&R section could cause great ofence.
In fact thinking about it while writing, this is a super car forum and should remain a supercar forum, and supercars have alays been conected to women (sex sells), but you know if that offended the women on the forum i would be happy just to talk and see supercars. But to see a picture of a clans man sitting on the bonnet of a F50 does nothing for me:D P&R is always going to fuel sain men.....and women..

Good call Dave. The last few months on here since the departure of old Tea Pot have been great. It's only the last 2 - 3 days where it has turned nasty.

I would vote to allow girlie avatars, and bikini pics in any thread, but to keep politics in the P&R section as it does not interest me, so I never go there. In other words, just turn back the clock 72 hours, and carry on as we were.

It is our experience that without a P&R section those types of threads will appear in Other OT and even the regional & Ferrari forums by human nature. How do you think it should be handled then? Allow it to be spread and not contained?

Having just read the post and choices i have to say i dont really give a truck -i come on this site for some relief from stresses at work or home - not to make nail biting decisions on how a bloomin web site should be modded.

Just keep doing what you were doing. Dont muck about with the recipe - you'll spoil the dish.

Any persons not abiding by the rules should be stripped naked and flogged.

I have not posted on these issues yet, but have preferred to stay away. Luckily the silliness seems to have died down and lets hope it stays that way.

I cannot vote in the poll as there is not one option that truly reflects my opinion.

I feel Chaa has really got it right in that Girls should be allowed - but it should be with a measure of control - ie limited to certain areas so if you want to avoid it you can, and it should be tasteful as this is not a porn site.

But a lot of what is said in the P & R section is bang out of order. Freedom of Speech is one thing and it is to be encouraged, but it should not include racism, slander and general insults. People who post that sort of rubbish should be banned.

Britain prides itself in allowing free speech, but racism is illegal. I assume this is the same in the US and I think think forum should adopt those principles.

I dont feel that Robs all or nothing approach is correct in that section, there needs to be some regulation to protect against these issues.

308man You know i hear were you ae all comming from, but from the point of view of racisum, when there is racisum some one in the minority has to say somthing, we cant just burry our heads and pretend its not happening. Rob we have a saying in the UK which is "musent Grumble" some of us must or things get worst:)

Well I hate to say it but I would prefer no girls - especially the almost naked ones which were starting to become quite common. I can however live with NWS in the thread title.

I know many people in the UK section don't work in offices or even have bosses but I do, and have to be careful what I'm looking at. The avatars were getting out of control in my opinion - even before the big bust up over the last two days. I had read the thread in the silver section and found out how to turn them off which made a huge difference to my ability to browse at work.

Some of you with big post counts might think I've no right to complain and have nothing to contribute but I read almost everything written in this section and have done so for some time now. Fchat was a lot cleaner 2+ years ago and before the new software came along there was almost no flesh.

I'm not on this forum as much as I used to be (mainly due to work), but on that other forum run by a certain white Diablo owner, they have a NWS section. This is clearly marked and if people want to post nude pics, rude jokes or anything thats slightly 18+ then they do so in there.

No issues with girls being offended in the normal categories. Easy :)

I must admit, I used to love FChat. It was a great place to come and learn, but having polls and constant discussions about how it should be run just doesn't help nor does it attract new enthusiasts.

We should be here to talk about Ferraris. The racist comments and insults should be heavily moderated and deleted, with the members being banned. Racism has no place in this world imo.

I respect the moderators views as it is an unthanked job. Yours too Rob, I've emailed and pm'd you before and you've been helpful. You've set this up, we use it and enjoy it. Thanks for that.

I just hope things can return to normality and we can carry on enjoying our cars.

    :)

I have'nt voted in the above poll, but here are my views.

I think the moderation in the UK section is fine and should be left as it is. I think only Brits truly understand other Brits and I think we do a good job of keeping ourselves and each other in check.

However, racism and bigotry has no place in any media. Any posts should be removed and the user warned and if the warning unheeded, banned. They can go to iamaracistbigot.com and post there.

"Girls" should be kept in a separate section to allow ALL users access.

I know it is painful to sometimes talk about, but I truly believe to be the best we can, we have to ask the tough questions and get the full membership involvement on where we're going. If one person thinks they can make the correct decisions to lead an online international community of 20k in the right direction, they are wrong.

This is really a "no-brainer" if you do not want get upset by either of the particular issues stay away from the Forums.IMHO if either of the "Girls or the P&R strays from these particular forms then the user should be banned. If any Racism is written the culprits should be banned permanently.

I don't think I can see the option I want unless 'no girls' really means 'only girls in the bikini thread'.

I've said before I think that the current system works well. Girls can be in the bikini thread so if you want to look you know where to go, and if you're offended by that sort of thing (or you're a girl) then it isn't constantly being shoved in your face. That implies only one bikini thread and since girls aren't Ferraris that means they go in off topic.

Forum 69 doesn't need to exist. There are plenty of better sources out on the web.

Current level of moderation is right as far as I am concerned. We operate on warnings first, then if someone oversteps the mark again more drastic measures are taken. Seems the right approach to me.

Politics and religion can stay. I never read it so it never offends me. That's probably why Brits don't stand up for themselves in there - many of us don't go in. If that sort of thing is going on in there then I wouldn't give people the satisfaction of responding to it.
