Don't know where else to post this thread, but figured it would get some exposure (and maybe a fix) if it's here...

Why is it that when I go into one category it seems that all other categories become flagged as if everything has already been read? In other words, all other threads in all other categories no longer are bold.

This is really my biggest single hot button about this site as I usually have to pick through all the threads and look at the last post date to know whether or not I read the thing.
Is there an option to change this? I am using IE6... is there a problem with the browser? Any thoughts?

Well, slight modification to my b!tch.... I shouldn't have said it's when I visit a single category, but more accurately it's actually when I LEAVE f-chat alltogether.

Seems when I come back ALL threads are marked as read.

But, I guess I just answered my own question.... NEVER LEAVE F-CHAT!!!! ;)

I agree this is incredibly annoying. I've asked before if it could be fixed since there is a setting in vBulletin config that does it. See this post:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=136929803&postcount=5

6speedonline has it set this way and it is SO much better. The setting supposedly consumes a bit more CPU on the machine hosting fchat, but I think it would be worth it. I constantly get interrupted by kids or coworkers or wife and by the time I get back to fchat I can't tell what I've read and have not read.

If rob were willing to configure it to fix the problem, I'd happily upgrade to rossa subscribed status.

+++1 I have a Mac and PC and it occurs on all the computers, even the ones at work!!! Yea, I hate it too, I have just started checking dates/times of last thread post, its annoying. I have actually missed some meet info with this happening. Nothing catastrophic of course, but annoying!

+1, There have been times when I've had a few minutes and visit FChat. When I return later, the threads are not bold. It's very annoying having to review the dates.

I think when you leave and come back it sets the threads to show what is new SINCE you were last there. In other words, after the system senses you were gone, it marks everything read from that point into the past.

Thats exactly correct, the bold topics are those that have had new posts since your LAST VISIT to the f-chat site.
That is controlled by a cookie, and there's nothing you can do about it except to open a new IE window to view other sites while still having f-chat open.

Try enabling your ''tabs'' option if you havn't already... that allows you to be on several sites at once with only 1 browser window.
Hit the refresh button occasionally and the topics that have new posts while you were logged on, will turn bold again.

Better yet, GET FIREFOX! internet explorer was, is, and always will be the worst POS web browser ever!

like I said, see post #9 above, this can be fixed by the Fchat system admin if they choose to do so. Maybe we should have a petition :)

There is also apparently a timeout. If I take too long to write a reply, such as going off to search for pictures on my PC to post, actualy go to look something up (instead of guessing, the Fchat technical response preference) by the time I post five minutes later everything is marked as old. Really, do people here need to check f-chat every five minutes? Can't this be streatched to 30 mins?

OK, no time for spell check or more typing, I gotta go back before they get re-marked.....

You are making the assumption this is within our control. Within our enterprise, for better or worse there is an IT mandate that thou shalt not use anything other than IE6. Personally I feel this is stupid since at least IE7 has some nice usability enhancements, but that still doesn't give me any options other than leaving a window open.

Wouldn't it be cool if at least the server tracked only the subscribers; might add to the benefits of being a paying member! Hmmmm..... just a thought.
