    Rob- it means that the binding factor in performance, ie the limiting factor, is your disk drive.

    Think of a car. Say you have a 700hp engine, X-trac sequential race transmission, and 1.5" bicycle tyres in the rear.

    Your car would be slow, but adding more horsepower to the engine would not help. Your 'limiting factor' is elswehere, or you could say you are 'traction bound' in terms of performance.


    Again, just a theroey.

    I think RedHat's top tells you something about the disk usage, there are other metrics you can look at (osview and gr_osview on SGI come to mind)

    So disk drive would be the hard drive and not the processor or a combo of both? Thanks.
