Found something about that - "highlight and hover". However, doing that kicks you down to the Reply box at the bottom of the page EVERY time, so you lose where you were on what's now a very long page, or even a different page.
The new theme is visually less appealing to me. My primary objection is the over-use of the color red. Your new design uses high contrast red and black. This is very stark and it will heighten emotions from users. Your theme will have a tendency to stimulate some users by the vibrancy of the design. But, for me, this enhanced use of the color red with stark contrast to the black and white of the page is unappealing. Just too much red for my tastes. Red evokes in me "danger" or warning. For example, in your new design you have small red squares at the far left of each forum title. It draws my attention, but then I feel that the red is telling me something important is in there. Something that needs my attention. You also use red font to indicate the last poster in that forum. IMO ... poor choice of colors. Just too much red ink there. In your old style theme you use a lot blue. I find that more visually appealing than using red. But, even here you could improve. Instead of blue, if you wanted to update the theme ... use colors such as shades of grey, soft green tones like sage. You could apply a bit of red here ... but tone down the red. Instead of bright, in your face red ... use darker shades that are more subdued. As you likely know, there are hundreds of themes for Xenforo. Your current new design theme is modern and flashy ... but, its appeal is directed to the 20 yr old to 30 yr old audience. You should consider that the average age of your audience here is likely to be in the 50s and flashy, bold, red font themes are just not going to go over well. My advice ... pick a subdued theme and let that be an option for users to try. I like the layout of the new design vs the old design, but just can't get over the "in your face" colors that you chose. That is my ... Image Unavailable, Please Login Best regards, Steve
Maybe we should have just hired you to take over and I'll quit, I have better things to be doing with my time and money, I'm just here because I care about the community.
I thought it was a lame point by them too, but that's what they communicated to the powers that be. if corporate doesn't sign the account this year we'll know it was B.S.
Didn't see a reply to my post and screenshot about the messed up formatting. Iphone latest iOS, built in browser. Also, some pics show up as small attachments instead of full size, some pics show up full size. The new software is clunky, getting more used to it--but I find the "enjoyment" of the site is much less with the new interface. Any insight on the pics and messed up formatting?
I like what you did to the new theme in dropping the blank white space on the right. Good progress. Suggestion ... in the old style theme when bringing up a thread, there is a button to click ... immediately to the right of the number of pages called, "Go the the First Unread" ... very nice for quick navigation. This is missing in your new theme. If you could just tone down the colors ... less red ink ... you would have me completely converted over. Regards, Steve
Disregard my suggestion about the button for "Go to First Unread" ... I see it is there ... when viewing watched threads. I think some of this is just getting used to the layout and such. Overall, I think you have done a nice job converting over. It is not easy. I come from an IT background and this is major undertaking. I applaud you for reaching out to the community to seek user opinions. Hang in there and do not get too frustrated. I believe you and your team will fine tune this and make it work just fine. Best regards, Steve
Hindsight is 20/20 and I think I've said you guys were doing pretty well a couple of times considering the task and prissy users here ...
If uploading a photo now, you need to select "FULL SIZE". It's been stated that they plan to get rid of all thumbnails and have the photos all default to full size
Another nice feature of Xenforo's application is the ability to insert a picture by inserting a link to the photo's URL. I have used this feature in other Xenforo forums and find it very handy. For example, by inserting a link to a photo on Sticky RX's website ... Image Unavailable, Please Login .... one can insert a photo without "uploading" and image file. Very nice feature. Steve
Actually, I'm not a fan of that at all. When the photo is removed from the hosted site, it's bye - bye. Case in point - the photo you used from our site will be gone soon when we get the time to upload our better photos
I must admit, I think the upgrade has been a good thing. It's certainly feeling like an improved home on the desktop when using the FerrariChat Old skin. I've got the Unread Watched Threads page bookmarked as my old UserCP, the New Posts bookmarked as before, and I'm enjoying the new option to have RSS feeds for the forums I most like to peruse. All these great advances....if only we could see them. -Live screenshot of the new Fchat- Image Unavailable, Please Login
Oh, come on Mark, that's hardly fair. Now that I've set up the above, this certainly feels like an improved home of FChat with better functionality. Clicking on the thread titles in the Unread Watched Threads list takes you to the first unread post - which is something that vBulletin was supposed to do but never worked properly. Furthermore, if you click on the time latency beneath the last poster's name, you'll be taken to the last post in the thread - much like using the end arrow on the old system. It feels very familiar, but has a little more information while you do things, and gives additional functionality that the old site didn't have. Rob says the developers are still working on the bugs and my understanding is that they'll later get to tweaking the aesthetics, so I'm sure you'll come to feel comfortable with it. Change for the sake of change is bad, but this was a necessary change to patch security vulnerabilities and lack of support for existing bugs. We now have active development support, so we can change and upgrade things as needed - it just takes a little time. All the best, Andrew.
correct, FYI we want it to work 100% like the old FerrariChat, no image linking and no thumbnails (except you can see the 800 pixel inline and click on it to see a hi-res version which you couldn't on old).
My biggest concern going live was having a critical bug where we would have to backtrack to old FerrariChat, fix, and then do another 20 hour implementation. Good news that didn't happen, 75% of the early grief could have been avoided if we had proper permissions for subscribed users not seeing all ads. That was a quick fix. Also the right frame new style. We have a bunch of little bugs this week to resolve and when those are stable we can get into design/style things. I got my ass kicked by the consulting firm and corporate pushing out testing to 6 weeks from the original 1-2 weeks. I'm glad I stuck to my guns for that much testing, but we could have even used a little more. Then of course the risk would have been consulting firm bailing and/or corporate kicking me. Weighing everything I decided it was time to go for it.
Is there a way to get rid of the user related information on the right side of the screen on the "old version"? I personally really dislike the split screen effect and I would like to know if there's a way to minimize all of that on the right side of the screen, on the old version. I know that it can be done on the new version, but I just don't like the new version's layout and color scheme.
it has already been removed on the new style, I support removing it from old style too, especially since the old FerrariChat didn't have it.
Hi I've only scanned this thread but see there are a lot of complaints. Being an almost exclusive phone user of this site here are some positives. To upload a picture is now very simple. Can be done in a couple of clicks rather than the exhausting many clicks with the second page coming up The fact you can type whilst the picture is still loading is also terrific. The fact you have to remember to hit "full image" is a little annoying. The fact that when you type a reply you can see all the text and the screen auto resizes and you don't have to constantly scroll to see the text is huge. And you can edit typos in previous posts. So far have only tried posting and not many of the other features but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. Jason
