As I am slowly adding more content on YouTube, I am finding it increasingly difficult to find people to subscribe to me, and to. Some of us are already subscribed to each other and some we may have not known of prior to this thread.

As I have done previously with the http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/creative-arts/308759-ferrarichat-flickr-users.html, perhaps we could do the same here.

This thread isn't limited to YouTube, share Vimeo and other video sharing sites.

Here is my YouTube Channel: Ashwin Gupta - YouTube

I don't look for subscriptions, I find if you put an interesting video out there people will find it. More important it is good content and then once people start crosslinking it gets the views. Subscriptions don't do much overall. I only have 52 subscribers, but at minimum I usually get 1,000 views per video and I have some over 30,000. My hunting and fishing videos get the most views when I post at a hunting & fishing forum and on Facebook.

    Don't sacrifice quality for quantity.

This will serve you well down the line.

I have't put much on there other than silly phone videos and a few real camera videos.

I have't looked too much into it.

    BUT!!

I am working on two videos. One with a combi of normal images and video files, and another with a combi of camera and phone camera videos.

First one will, when done, be about a city around here.

The other one will be some cars racing in Copenhagen.

this one is from there.... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydq6qMvuBTc]Racing for charity in Copenhagen - YouTube[/ame]

Most of it is car related, with my Vector content starting to approach some big numbers. The video didn't even get much view until 2007, after being up for about 1 year; then web cross linking, etc. started happening more and more.

There are some techniques to help get more subscribers that I've started employing, as well as ways to 'suggest' viewing your other videos. It's not the easiest, and if you are looking for a paycheck, very few really reach that as a sole source of income. I do it for fun; and what I've "made" hasn't paid for the gas to go to these places/film etc. In fact, I largely look at it as a way to share in the things I have interest in.

Chris Ashworth has done pretty well with it, and I think is approaching 3000 subscribers.

Check out my Packard and Continental Engine Plant virtual tours, and see how annotations, and video suggesting works.

PS after 7 years, I've got 103 subscribers. I still wonder why :p

semi OT question: how does Vimeo continue to exist?
Seems like the Betamax to Youtube's VHS.
Youtube used to load all the way through a video if you put it on pause and surfed another page, now it just loads/buffers the next 10 seconds or so.

on topic: my youtube channel has 49 subscribers and ~65k total views over 55 videos.
Many of the cooler vids IMO have the least views :/
    Kurt's channel - YouTube

No advertisements or cross linking that I know of, except for a pseudo link I gave in a review of a RC helicopter on Amazon. They don't allow direct links so I just instruct readers to search for "S800g Review March 2012" on Youtube. That video gets 2-3000 views/month.

Now you have a new subscriber :)

Very nice video quality, what equipment?

Mine are mostly done with point&shoot digicams, haven't gotten around to editing some HD mini-dv footage from the ring, a ride in a B-17, etc.

Even though my Panasonic Lumix shoots in 1080p I only upload to YT in 720p, and almost never bother to watch any YT videos in 1080p because on my 27" monitor I can't tell the difference and loading time is significantly longer.

Good job on your videos. I agree with the other comment that quality matters more than quality, so perhaps consider editing several of your shorter clips together into fewer, slightly longer ones.

I wish I could answer these things. Vimeo is definitely for higher quality videos, and better playback.

I uploaded a 30 second teaser of a SD video I took of a Vector W8, and it now has 600-700,000 views. I guess that means I'm famous lol (not really) Those views have slowed down a lot over the last 12 months now.

Thanks! I'm trying to do a video once a day to keep myself uploading, I did the same thing on Flickr and got lots of repeat people (I even had one pay for my membership - I couldn't believe it :)) Problem is...I need more footage! That's a good thing though. It'll keep me getting footage. I have a few things that I forgot I even recorded when I go back and look at my files. But from what you said - quality does matter, I'm getting more used to knowing how to use it and adjusting the focus manually and getting the proper lighting, so hopefully the ones in the future would look way better once I get a better hang of it. I would rather have a dedicated video camera than a DSLR which is heavy - for me at least.

I use a Canon 60D, it's what I use for photos, but since it has the capabilities, I thought I should use it a bit more often than I was before. I want a GoPro Hero3 Black in the future though, such a cool piece of technology and the footage is incredibly good.

Man I have been doing this wrong I guess...

For years (and I mean y e a r s) I have been deleting non-invited subscribers as best I can at least once a month. In fact right now I have 22 subscribers (deleted 3 yesterday) which about 10 of have been invited. The others? They are unknown peeps & are not able to be deleted. They have hidden their identity & I cant figure out a way to delete them.

So tell me... Should (or could) I have made some type of funds from that? Some of my videos have over 1 million views. And my page has over 3 million visits. I have never received a dime.

    Teach me.

You could have but, not as much money as you think you could have made. You have to become a Partner (yes, I am - it is now open to everyone) - I forget how, but it's not difficult, go play with the settings and you'll probably find it.

I'm surprised youtube/google haven't sent you an email inviting you to profit share in adsense.

3 million views, depending on content, and ads, IMO would be worth about 600-700$. With the right ads on the right video, more clicks/e commerce is more likely; and higher values.

I don't make videos to go viral, just stuff I think is fun. Maybe eventually some of it will? I'm 800-900k views, and have about $300 to show for it. I'm def. not an expert in it. I know one person who's made much more than that in one month even!

My buddy says he makes $500 a month on good months.

I don't know my total as of now, but as of last month, it was $5. Nothing. I need $100 to just cash out. I don't care about the money though, I want to put content out, that's why I started the photos. To share with friends in Texas what I was seeing at the car shows.

I'm on - same handle as here, although I was originally using it for something else, it's now a repository for stuff my kids do. There's a video of my first Jiu Jitsu tournament 3-4 years ago too!!!
