Seems the Michelin tires wear at a rate double that of the Bridgestones this year. I always thought it was a mistake for Ferrari to contract with a minority tire company who collects a fraction of the race data of its competition. Now it seems that choice has caught up with them.

I don't know if this question deserves a response or should this thread just die.

First off, Ferrari is in partnership with Bridgestone!!!!!!
Secondly, F1 is a team sport and it would be hard to drive a car without tires.
Thirdly, Why did you not complain when Ferrari won 6 world chsmpionships with BRIDGESTONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My sincere apologies for switching Michelin with Bridgestone!

But the fact remains that Ferrari has stood by a minority tire provider yet won by the sheer excellence of their cars and drivers. Now that their cars are average, the shortcomings of their tires exaggerate the underperformance of the team to this point.

I had to read the thread three times when I first opened it up. Then I decided not to respond because I couldn't understand the question. Now that we've switched em...... yes personally I think it would be better for Ferrari to be on Michelins, but I drive with them so I just prefer them in general. It is a little strange that only one team has a different tire company.

I'm 100% with Imperial on this one.

Ferrari won in the past BECAUSE of their very, very close partnership with Bridgestone. Just think for a minute how good it is for Ferrari to have Bridgestone design a tyre to 100% suit their car, nobody elses ... just them.

That is a race winning deal ... and now it has backfired (due to a massive tyre rules change). Thus in the short term Ferrari are suffering ... but if the rules stay the same long enough for Bridgestone to catch up, Ferrari once again will return to that very satisfying relationship of perfect tyres for their cars chassis dynamics ... and all Michelin runners (except Renault ;) ;)) have to accept a compromised tyre.

Let me be clear........ I'm not bashing Bridgestone or complaining to Ferrari. I just think in the whole scheme of rules, you'd think F1 would set the type of tires the teams were running.

    GO Ferrari..........

Technically three teams (Ferrari, Jordan, Minardi), but I doubt most people call Jordan and Minardi "teams," they don't seem to have their act straight yet.

Even though it was Ferrari's choice, can they drop Bridgestone at any point and pick up Michelin? I assume they have a long term contract, but I don't know the details. At any rate, once Bridgestone gets more time to adjust to the new rule, they'll be doing well and Ferrari won't be as hindered with the tires as they are now.

Also, does anyone know what tires are on brand new road Ferraris? I've seen Michelin PS and Pirelli P-Zeros, not too sure of Bridgestones, but I'd think they would be.

    :)

It is generally not a good idea to say anything negative about Ferrari or their technical partners when I am around.

Yes, it is in fact MICHELIN's fault as it is Michelin that is making a superior tire that is helping the teams that use them beat Ferrari with its Bridgestones.

????????? where have you been? There are JILLIONS of race series in the world where teams can choose their tires and work with a manufacturer. It's usually the teams decision and the better teams get the better deals. Sorry, it's how it's done.....unless you are in a series that runs a "SPEC" tire like in World Challenge or Viper series or even Ferrari challenge. But even in ALMS, there is a huge difference in tires. For the past 5 years or so, Michelin has been TITS UP and worth a second a lap on anyone else. Not everyone could have them either. Ferrari could choose to go with Michelin and I'd bet the farm, Michelin would bend over backwards to have them. Ferrari chose to work with Bridgestone and kicked everyones arse until the other teams realized they would have to do as Ferrari and work more closely with the tire manufacturer and share data instead of keeping it top secret.

This is the way it is....... It's called competition. One team kicks butt for a while while everyone else plays catch up......now Ferrari got caught with their pants down and is playing serious catchup. Rubens is a test mule right now and they will find it sooner or later. Bottom line, everyone will end up going faster and more rule changes will occur and it will start all over just like every other year.
