Ferraris and Celebrities...

I could not imagine being a celebrity and driving around in a Ferrari. The car gets enough attention by itself. I personally don't like the attention the car brings with it but I love driving the car so much. I could not imagine being famous. I think it would be more of a curse than anything.

I would love to market a product that is hand held and just puts out multiple bright flashes of light and sell it to celebrities who are stalked by the photographers. It would drive me nuts to have people taking pics of me all the time. If I was famous I would only stay that way long enough to make a huge stack of cash and move to some small hick town and retire.

 

Jay drives a lot of eye-catching classic convertibles, with the top down, to and from NBC in Burbank, with his big famous head sticking right out. Funny. I've also seen him in a old firetruck and an Ariel Atom.

 

HAS CARBON HEARD THIS!?? Uh oh.

He's going to find 1.4 million overnight...

But what is laughable, it's that he fitted his car w/ a then mobile phone !!

Everybody was saying the phone worthed more than the car !!!

I just spent the last half-hour checking out his website. He has a great collection of cars, but no Ferraris. So what? He's an avid collector with more money than God, and if he has some reason or other for not wanting a Ferrari, it doesn't bother me. I've heard from people that have met/dealt/worked for him that he's really a nice guy, and I'd love to meet him and talk about some of his other cars. Each car in his collection apparently comes with a 10 minute or so video where he tells you a about it. Very entertaining.

My favorite celebrity Ferrari story was about 10 years ago. I was setting up for a campus tour that was being produced by Merv Griffin Studios, which is located next to the Santa Monica Airport. Jeff Probst (went on to host Survivor) was the MC on this tour (Rock & Roll Bowl is what it was called - a college trivia bowl). Anyway I was chatting in the back of the studio with him right after lunch when we heard this fantastic sound coming from one of the hangars. Seinfeld has a hangar there that he keeps his Porsches in, but this was no 6-cylinder. Turns out it was from the hangar adjacent to Seinfeld's, belonging to Michael Jackson. He apparently kept (or maybe still does) several Ferraris in there. Jeff and I went over to the hangar to try and get a closer look. It was just a kick that here was somewhat of a celeb himself, enamored with what kind of toys a bigger celeb was keeping and maybe catch a glimpse of the gloved one (who knew he could even drive) taking a 333 SP out for a spin down the runway. Never happened of course; the engines shut down and the hangar doors were closed. Perhaps better left to the imagination anyway.

 

I thought Simon's Veyron was black?

 

Bruce Cockburn probably wrote a song about Ferraristis polluting the fresh mountain air.....
