Cantigny Park in Wheaton was the home of Chicago Tribune editor and publisher Robert R. McCormick. The mansion was built in 1896 and extensively remodeled by McCormick in 1936. It was open to the public in 1958. The mansion has served as the backdrop for movies such as A Baby’s Day Out, A League of Their Own and Richie Rich. It will also be seen as the backdrop to an upcoming episode of the popular British TV show Wheeler Dealers.

Normally, vehicles are not permitted in the front of the museum, which originally was the main entrance to the house off of Roosevelt Road. However, the Chicago Ferrari Owners Club was able to make a special arrangement to park our cars in the front of the museum at our October 4th meet.

This is a unique opportunity only open to Ferraris. The McCormick foundation has asked that any photos not be used for commercial purposes without their consent. Also, parking in the front of the mansion is limited and the McCormick Foundation will have the final say as to the number of vehicles that will be allowed.

So while this event is open to all Chicago area Ferrari owners, FOC club members will have the first opportunity for parking in front of the mansion. I need a count for the park, so please send me a PM if you would like to participate on October 4th.

I met with the McCormick Foundation folks today and have an update:

    • No pets or alcoholic beverages are allowed on the grounds.
    • We are limited to 20 cars in the front of the mansion.
    • Others are welcome to attend, but will need to remain in the parking area.
    • Arrive by about 9:00 AM, pay your $5 entry fee at the gate and park in the first lot on the left across from the picnic area.
    • At 9:30 AM the first 20 cars will drive along the service road to the front of the museum. Once everyone has had the opportunity to take some photos we will drive back to the parking lot.
    • The rest of the day can be spent touring the house, walking the grounds, seeing the 1st Division Museum or having a picnic lunch.
Please send me a PM if you plan to attend.

Nice! Cantigny is always a great venue - even if cars are relegated to the parking area (I've attended a few Jag & Porsche shows in the parking lot). Beautiful grounds - and have loved the museum since I was a little kid.
