I know Jim Glickenhaus is spending a lot of money with his car company but it still surprises me he's letting this one go.

 

9-year restoration, wow. That is a painful amount of time to not have access to a very expensive purchase. Surely this will be the biggest sale of the week (or at least the highest bid)?

 

Ex-Jarold Evans, ex-David Livingston. We (Symbolic) bought it from Tanaka (T&I Circuit game in Japan), in the mid-1990s. We resold it to Paul Vestey who part-exchanged 0738TR and an Ecurie Ecosse longnose D-Type. It eventually ended up with Bruce McCaw who then resold it to Glickenhaus.

 

Exactly what I was planning on doing BUT was waiting for everything to settle. The joys of a digital rather than analog world is that previous years months of notice and publicity have been replaced with weeks and even days of notice.

As for #0854, Bonhams is an interesting place to sell such a high value motorcar. One has to go back a decade to 2014 when they offered the remains of the Violatti collection to see Bonhams offer anything in this league! Although I guess the McLaren F1 a few years ago was also a pretty big catch?

 

Jim likes the Quail, they always invited him over without asking many questions. I think it probably has to do with the venue more than anything.

 

I wonder if he’ll use some of the money to buy back his “first love” 275 which Medlin let rot in the barn…

Every lot at RM Sothebys. After last years record setter one could be left thinking how do you top that, a good 250LM helps as does all manner of Jaguars, Bugattis, Porsches and much much more. The combined high bids are $267mm so there is potential to equal last years record of $239.2mm in sales and again one must note this is for 204 cars so average high value is around 1.3mm USD! Much of the good stuff is on Saturday night where in one 33 lot block just 7 are valued below $1 mm.........

Could be a few things at play. Bonhams may be offering a guarantee, less/no seller commission, or a more impressive offering and advertising support than the majors.

 

6053 was not built new with a Drogo longnose - - it was born with a standard Scaglietti nose.

 

I sincerely doubt Bonhams is offering a guarantee on 0854.

it seams odd the the 65 superfast is much less than the 63
Must be substantial quality levels.. Love the Super America & Superfast
across the board..

"After Le Mans, 0202 A was sold to Luigi Chinetti, and was raced throughout the summer and fall of 1952, including at the Circuit de Vitesse and Mont Ventoux Hill Climb. With Lucien Vincent again behind the wheel, 0202 A finished 6th in Class at Montlhéry in September, and a month later René Marchand also raced the car at Montlhéry, finishing 3rd in Class. In early 1953, the Ferrari was sold through Chinetti to noted racer, distributor, and constructor Bill Devin of California, who then sold it to successful Los Angeles-based racer Ernie McAfee. A copy of a beautiful color photo on file, taken by Phil Hill, captures this period of the car’s life, picturing the Ferrari at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Texas when it was raced by Jack McAfee in the Lone Star National Sports Car Races."

The Circuit de Vitesse is actually Monthlery and the event was the Coupe d'Automne where Vincent finished 6th in the +2.0 race, a mere 100km sprint

so I suppose the text means to indicate a second race in September 1952.

If with "Circuit de Vitesse" is meant "Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry" near Paris then please say so in the auction text.

 

There was a yearly event at Montlhéry called "Coupes de Vitesse". In 1952 that was on March 3rd.

I assume Vitesse was the non official name for Montlhery and they held several annual weekends in the glory days, Coupe d'Automne, Coupe de Vitesse, Coupes du Salon (with the Salon d'Automobile show in Paris) and Coupes du Printemps but four.
