It would be interesting to know the population of F-cars in the Northwest. Maybe someone has a clue of what rare models and othe numbers of current makes. My friend Shannon, formerly of FoS, told me back in 2003 that there were approx 40 360s, mostly coming from his location. Also, two years ago I was in Port Angeles and a red F355 Spyder was being hauled towards Seattle on H 101. The winshiels was burnt, blackish brown, and the windows were slightly discolored. We asked the truck driver at a stop what happened, but didn't get a clear explanation. His trailor had Porsche decals and other racing stickers. Any one have a clue? Port Angeles is in the sticks, what would a Ferrari being doing out there?
I think the estimate is about 900+/- Ferraris in the NW. Not all of the owners belong to the Northwest Region Ferrari Club of America. As for why there was a Ferrari in Port Angeles? 900 seems a bit high, but you never know. Ron Tonkin has probably 25, and I know of another guy with 5 or 6 in the Portland area (hell, I have 3!). I remember reading a few years back that Oregon had the highest number of Porsches per capita in the US. Maybe the same thing is true for Ferraris?
I'm sure some one on this chat has a connection with the DOL and can get some numbers from them. That would be an approx count.
I have made an inquiry of Oregon DMV re # of F-cars. Here is the overall #. About 4 million registered vehicles. Roughly 2.7 million licensed drivers in Oregon.
I bought mine from a guy in Port Angeles and now that I own it, it is still "out in the sticks." You'd be surprised what a person can find on Whidbey Island too! HA!
We need to do a Breakfast Club up there again. What a great day. Willis, Anymore shots from that day? I don't have access to my pictures at the moment and the Fchat archives are gone from that year.
My research indicates there are slightly more than 100 fcars in OR (at least a couple years ago). It is interesting to note that the owners of those cars do not necessarily reside in OR and several of them are business owned (i.e. dealer, restoration shop, etc)
Definitely need to do a run to the island again. I got a bunch saved from the archives. Most were taken by Dr. Shelbee (a ton of shots) and the rest are from Dave L..
Ferrari's are a rare sight, once a guy brought his red Testarossa in and we saw him all around town. The 275 or 265 or 264, I think that is what it is, is owned by a private VW mechanic. A nice guy and a real Ferrari nut. His name is Bill and I used to bug him to bring her to shows when I'd get my Beetle fixed. His shop is just plastered with Ferrari paraphenelia, to the ceiling. I was 16 and had just discovered Ferraris the previous year, so talking to him was a real enlightenment. The 308 is owned by a junk yard owner just outside of PA. He parks it out front on sunny days. Some say it was a salvaged car. Question: Who knows about the burnt up red F355 Spider that I saw in Port Angeles on a trailer heading east two or three years ago? Is there some funny story to it?
For grins, I called the WA DMV statistics dept. and they were very helpful. There are 496 Ferraris "registered" to be driven on the streets in the State of Washington that have current license tabs. Just think of all the additional race cars and other rare ones which are not registered or occasionally use trip permits for events. Amazing!
