I'm a shade over 6-3 with, regrettably, kind of a big ass.

Dream Ferrari for years has been a 328 (don't like the intakes on the 348, newer and a shade faster than the 308, but I digress). But it is a very tight fit. I bought a Mondial Cab just to get a whiff of the experience, which certainly has adequate headroom. But it is kind of slow, and lacks a certain elan which the 328 has in spades.

What can the tall driver on a budget (let's keep it under 50K or so) drive around in comfortably, which is both fast and sharp?

Mark, I suggest waiting a little while and trying for a 456.

Another option is the Mondial T. If you like the 328, you may like the Mondial's lines.

Finally there also are some of the classics, like the older 365/400/412 series.

I'm about your size as well. While we disagree a bit on the Mondial thing, here's some of what I have tried on. If you have not driven a 3.2 or t, might be worth a try.
Besides a Porsche 911 which is the most tall friendly, if you could stretch beyond $50 a bit, a Berlinetta Boxer fits tall people well for a Ferrari. So does both a 330 GTC (out of price range) and 330 GT 2+2 (in price range). A 365 GTC/4 is a bit tight at the legs, but ok, certainly better than a 328 (and that V-12 SOUND!). A 365 GT 2+2 is cavernous inside. And at the rate they are depreciating, a 456 will be closing in on $60K soon and is also quite roomy. The Maserati Indy is very roomy, as are XK-E & 2+2s which both are in the price range. Oddly enough, although not a car I think you would be interested in, Alfas are tall friendly as well, at least for me. A 308 GT4 is ok, but tight.
Cars you may have a harder time in include 246 Dinos and 250 Lussos (almost every 250 2 seater). Lambos Urracos are a definite non-starter. Don't even think Lotus anything. Have not been in a Bora or Merak, but would love to.

Just my experience. Good luck and have fun!!

Didn't they just modify the seats (removed some of the stuffing?) in Magnum's 308 so Tom Selleck (6'4", according to IMDB) could fit?

When I lived in Los Angeles in the mid 80's I was a member of the Mid Valley Health & Racquet Club in Reseda. Being L.A. there were a few celebs at the club, but the biggest of them all (literally) was Wilt Chamberlain. He had a 400i and he had the driver seat removed and he drove from the back seat.

Ironically, at 6'2", I fit in a 360 (and a Maranello) just fine. But I don't fit in a F355 because I'm long waisted and the windshield is too slanted.

I am 6'1" and have no problem with my 328. If you like 328 then go with GTS then you wouldn't have a problem. I also hear that there is a carbon fiber roof for GTS which adds another 3-5 cm.

With I am 6'5" I certainly do not fit in an 308 GTB or GTS, but driving my 308 GT4 is no problem at all.

Sitting in a Daytona or even F40 is no problem either (did try both just for size - can not afford either of them).

Love Alfas, have had 2 Spiders, might even pick up another one because I kind of miss 'em when they're gone. Always put a smile back on my face on the short drive home from work with the top down.........

    Ciao
I do always have problems in measures conversions. I am 188 cm tall and at the beginning I was a little scared about the lack of headroom on my 328. After a year and 5000 miles in it, it fits like a glove.
    Just my 2p.
    Ciao

I'm 6'-3" and my GTS is very difficult to get in and out of with the top on but no problem with the top off. As I never drive it with the top on this is not a problem. The hardest thing I had to get use to was the closeness of the pedals with my size 14 feet. Also, some have difficulty with the "Italian" driving position due to the distance of the steering wheel from the seat. I suppose that because I have driven Italian cars for so many years I don't even notice this, but some do.

There is oodles of room in a 456 and the seat rails can be moved back another inch or two if necessary.

Shaq has/had a blue 456 with the rear seats removed and the fronts moved back over a foot.

Early 456s should be just about in your budget - jsut make sure that the window update has been completed.

I have a 1985 308gtsi. I am 6-2. with top off fits me with no problem. with the top on I lean the seat back a tad. Without storing the top behind the seats there is room to lean it back. It then fits me fine. I "wear" my Ferrari

I also am 6-2, but mine is a 1981 308GTSi. I completely agree with Farmers Agent. After owning my car for almost 25 years, it does fit like a glove.
