Oh, yeah could have been.I wouldn't know off hand heck i was going into the 9th grade Fall of 93.Ferrari's didn't peak my interest for a few more years.Although I was in love with the corvette practically at birth.
Lets set this story straight, the cars were in St. cloud close to Kissimmee or to Disney World etc. Some of the cars inside the old movie house where he kept his cars were a 250GT 2+2, 512M the once wrecked by Craig Young at sebring, P3, 1066 formula 2, 250 GT California Spyder formely owned by the King of Morocco, a 250 GTO rebodied as a type 64, 410 Superamerica, 246GT, 206SP Competition Dino, Jody Schekters F1 car, 365 GTC-4, 275GTBC, 330 GTC, Le MAns Boxer, a few 2+2s of various configurations a P4, P3 and a Fiberglass bodied 308 GTB. The mag. was Road & Track special series "Ferrari" the only cars in that edition, the cover said "Dispaly until November 16, 1991"). The P3 and the P4 were worth between 5 million to 10 million EACH, and the 308 was worth at that time $50,000 to $70,000 but I know that some examples of this fiberglass body 308s did sell for much more than that a few months earlier. The IRS claimed the potential of this three cars to be at 20 million dollars. The good thing is that the owner "M" did not loose his P3, P4, and the 308 GTB. I still have the mag.
I don't know if I still have the magazine or not, but here are the scanned pages(did this awhile ago). I'm not even going to try and make these smaller, just click the links.... http://www.photohost.org/gallery/data/500/312ferrari1.jpg http://www.photohost.org/gallery/data/500/312ferrari2.jpg http://www.photohost.org/gallery/data/500/312ferrari3.jpg The files range insize from 141-218K.
it's like that 250GTO that was left in texas for that high school automotive class. one mans trash is another mans treasure?
Funny you should mention Texas...there is a dealer there that I bought my M3 from that had an old (60's or 70's) Ferrari just sitting next to the building doing nothing. Looked like it had been there for years. Did not think about it at the time, but I am going to call them back and see how much they want for it. Maybe I can save one.
i am going to try and get a hold of his son, i went to school with him, and get in there and take some pictures of the cars. what i really want is serial numbers to find out the history. f chat car hunt is on. thad
I posted these cars a few years ago when they were on ebay as 3 separate auctions. The old Ferrari chat had a long discussion on them. I remember one of the cars topped 1/2 million.
Walter Medlin is still around, and still owns most of the Ferraris. Some have been sold to pay liens and such, but he still has some very important cars. Years ago he owned the SST Museum in Kissimmee, which he acquired in a land deal. The Ferraris (many are in quite good shape) were displayed there, with the unrestored examples stored in back. When the museum was sold the cars were returned to the theater for storage. He would bring some of the cars to FCA meets in Florida in the '70s and '80s -- he gave my then girlfriend a ride in his P4 at one of the meets. Walter is something of an unassuming guy, and has been at a number of Ferrari meets, where he is usually ignored by most of the owners of newer cars who have no idea who he is, or that he might own a Ferrari. The racing boxer he has is one of the three '78 LM racing Boxers (24127, 24129, 24131), immediate predecessor of the 512 BB/LM of 1979. Huffaker built three race cars based on 308s for IMSA, but they had no success. They are actually first-cousins of the Huffaker Pontiac Fieros which did well in IMSA in the 1980s.
Yes, the pics that aawil posted were from 3 ebay auctions about 3 years ago. I only remember that the selling prices ended up about what a restored car would go for. Perfect for the seller, everyone got emotional about a "barn" find. Note to self... Put 328 in barn, on blocks, and put dirt all over it before selling. Almost 3 year old FerrariChat.com post... http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/251280/731.html 15 month old FerrariChat.com post... http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/251280/159831.html Funny part is some of the same users are posting on this thread now and with the same information, like wspeer. I even state the same opinion 3 years ago that I think the "barn find" was a marketing ploy. Interesting how the human memory works.
The red one in the first picture, is that a 250 of some sort?????? What are those two others?? the green and the silver. I also have a couple of pictures of veeeeeeeery old Ferraris. Here they are................................shame......
