With the news about the argument between a cop and owner of a 458 spider in New York, someone mentioned that a Ferrari is a "rare sight" in Manhattan when compared to London where there are supercars and hypercars everywhere.

Has anyone been to both NY and London recently and noticed a big difference in supercars around?

I haven't been to NY and am greatly looking forward to going later this year, and always assumed there would be as many supercars around as there are in London. London hotspots tend to be around Knightsbridge (outside Harrods) and around Kings Road in Chelsea among other small areas (hotel car parks etc). Where in Manhattan is good for supercar spotting?

Work in lower Manhattan and am back and forth to London almost monthly for business, usually stay around QVS and travel back and forth to Canary Warf via taxi 1-2x per week. I do notice more Ferraris and Aston Martins in London than I do in NYC. Seems like there are far less Porsches in London, whereas in NYC they are ubiquitous. There are many many more scootters and motorcycles in London. Ironically, I notice a lot of Harley's in and around London.

I presume the lower Ferrari observation count (at street level) in NYC is due to the parking situation. I bet if you walk through some garages you'd see a lot more than you would out on the street. Get off of Manhattan Island and there are plenty to be seen. Just check out the "Spotters" thread, most are observed (briefly) on the highways around NYC. If you're looking for a concentration, you need to go to the Long Island or Jersey shore on a weekend.

BTW, my favorite London restaurant is The Bleeding Heart.

I've lived and owned supercars in both cities. Sightings in NYC are rare compared to London, where you'll find Ferraris parked up and down Old Bond St like taxis in NYC. I agree with PhilB that it has to do with parking. I think it also has to do with roads and traffic, both of which are far worse in NYC than in London (and traffic in London is horrible). The cars are in NYC, but they're below ground.

I'm now living on Long Island, where in the past week I've seen the chrome-wrapped Aventador (from the Gumball 3000) and, at my favorite local restaurant, a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano 60 F1.

I've spent a considerable amount of time in both cities, and London wins in a landslide. On my first day in London a few years ago, I spotted 9 Ferraris and 2 Lamborghinis on the streets alone, and that was April, so the Arab Supercar Show wasn't even going on. I went back a few summers later, and was blown away even more. Ferraris, Lambos, even Bugatti's parked casually on the streets of the city! It's incredible. I'd imagine only Monaco and maybe some isolated areas of the U.S. contain more supercars in a small area.

In terms of places I've been to worldwide, London is the best place to see supercars.

If you're looking for supercars in the tri-state area, you'd probably have a better shot at seeing them in Bergen County, NJ. That's where I am and I've been averaging about a Ferrari per day just on local roads here this summer.

Really? I found Porsche's to be as common as Mustangs here in London. Aston's are as common as perhaps a Corvette is here.

As for restaurants, have you ever been to De Mario between Earl's Court and Gloucester Road? It's among the best Italian food I've ever had.
