Now the weather is cooling off I have seen a number of interesting cars in Doha A 430 spider in red twice over the weekend being, erm, exercised at a rate of knots A new 599 on a transporter near the airport today, in dark grey and a yellow Gaillardo on another transporter parked next to it - may have been a spider A fabulous white Rolls convertible with dark blue soft top, I'm not up on the model names, but it was brand new. First seen on a transporter on Thursday without plates, and then outside the Intercon for Friday brunch, with plates. Another new white Rolls 4-door that looked like an official car considering where it was parked. The newly extended Lamborghini's/Bentley showroom had a metallic white Murci in the showroom on Friday - gone today - plus 3-4 Contis The Ferrari/Maserati dealer had a dark blue 612 and a couple of Maserati Quattroporte in the showroom on Friday afternoon Saw a yellow Gaillardo coupe on the streets on Thursday night that was completely upstaged by a new Corvette that was obviously highly tuned (and had a TV monitor in place of the rear view mirror to see behind, not just a bolt-on screen but a monitor built into the original rear view mirror - how flash is that?) A couple of months ago I saw a red Enzo being driven very slowly There are quite few Gaillardos ad 360/430 around if you keep your eyes peeled. I even saw a Bentley Flying Spur from the late 80's on the way home tonight What we never seem to see here is anything classic from the 60's or 70's, or even 80's or 90's. Were are all of these older cars? I am a classic Ferrari enthusiast and have a couple in storage in the UK. I would just love to buy one in Qatar to play with.
Alot of the older classic cars are in permenant storage or have been shipped abroad to holiday homes or sold off. I can tell you in Kuwait alot of classic cars that are heard about through word of mouth are never ever seen on the streets, the only ones you see are the newer ones. Especially when it comes to Bentleys, Ferraris, RR and Lamborghinis. An example is a member of the ruling family here is known to have one of the largest collections of classic Bentleys and Aston Martins in the world but the only time we ever see a part of it is on the UK's National Day Celebrations as part of an exhibit somewhere maybe every other year. Qatar has a similar situation plus the type of individuals who buy these cars don't keep them for very long. Always something bigger and better out there. S
I must remember my camera Out and about today I saw a red 360 Modena near the Landmark Mall amd one of the new metalic black Merceedes SLR convertibles parked outside the Grand Rergency Hotel.
Simon Glad to see you are enjoying life over there. You've never fancied getting an Fcar over in Qatar? I hear they are quite reasonable out there. How is life there? I'll be moving to Jeddah in December. Do you get to drive the cars over here much? If not chuck me the keys and i'll keep the oil warm! Adnaan
Hi Adnaan Life here is very good. I am really enjoying it. I miss my cars though. They are all tucked up nice and warm in storage but I'll keep your offer in mind Haven't bought anything here yet - I'm in a rental Subaru Forrester, sweeeet. I must start looking for something soon though, doubt it will be a Ferrari though! Jeddah sounds like fun <gulp> Actually I haven't been into KSA yet, so I can't really comment. Cheers Simon. If I end up that way at any point i'll let you know. I've been to Qatar once, just in transit to Dubai. The airport was a total mess but I guess thats all complete now. I lived in Riyadh for a bit, and Jeddah is supposed to be more relaxed so looking forward to it. I'd love to buy a 456 over there but it just wont suit the familys needs. Maybe something for the future or a 360 in 12 months. Instead probably looking at a Range Rover or a Merc G500. Plenty of nutter drivers in Saudi so im guessing the bigger the car, the more chance we have!
