High performance machines are built with little to no compromise with a bias towards the most performance possible, this sometimes means less margin for things to go wrong and leads to the fires you see.

HP = Heat + flamable liquid + Italian craftsmanship = Fire.

Far more "non Italian" cars catch fire every year. But no one bothers to take/post pictures.

Far fewer Ferrari exist than "non Italian" cars. And tons of pictures are taken.

Why do you take it so personally that the F-cars that we love seem to have a higher percentage of car-b-ques than other makes? It happens, the things that make these cars real performers are also what make them more likly to catch fire.

    ditto the above...

when a Chevy Cavalier or Ford Escort (or a Yugo for that matter) catches fire and burns, no one cares, so what.... it's not worth $.0001 to take a digital photo....happens every day, that's why we have fire stations in every neighborhood.

A picture of a burning Ferrari however is worth $$$$ .... esp. to a tabloid. It gives the masses something to sneer at, vis a vis the 1%.

by the way I am not part of the 1%, the 10% maybe, but not the 1%.

also, I am installing a CO2 fire suppression system in my Ferrari so I don't end up in the pages of some tabloid, standing on the shoulder watching my Ferrari burn to the ground.

+1 to this... I mean it isnt as if there is fire here, yet no smoke... $h1t happens...

Of course Porsche has had a few too ;)

But this is all part of the "soul" and the "experience"! :D (I kid I kid!)

On a serious note... It isnt really about the fact that any mechanical object can catch fire... IMO it is more about *active and acknowledged recalls for engine fire conditions on >$100k automobiles* that is what catches people's interest more. The Cavalier has had engine fire recalls (I mean of course! No surprise right? LOL!), but people sort of expect it from a Cavalier. Part of the package! ;)

Someone at Jalopnik must've hijacked soucorp's login.

Jalopnik: the only auto blog where 0 to 451 degree times matters more than 0 to 60 mph times.

I'm curious to how many of the fires that we see are really related to driver error versus build quality or age of the vehicle in certain situations.
