The May issue of Motor Trend has on the front cover a LaFerrari, and inside writeups on it and several other Supercars, including the Lamborghini Aventador(base price $448,295). The last paragraph about the Lambo talks about the fact that Lamborghini has worked on the problem of the harshness of the transmission shift, and trying to lessen the the fore & aft head toss, saying the shifts are still unacceptablely jerky. The Aventador is a beautiful car, but I have read a number of reviews over the yrs, on various Lambo models, with testers complaining about the rough shifts of the E-Gear. Guess the "E" stands for erratic. Surely Lamborghini, with the mega dollar resources of Volkswagon can build a smoother shifting transmission? Haven't drove a 458 yet, but have read here on F-Chat, and talked to several people praising the very smooth shifting of the Ferrari 7 speed.

Shouldn’t this question be asked on a Lamborghini forum?

Why? Because it's about a Lamborghini? There's currently a comment on Turkish figs in the Fine Timepieces forum.

Is it better for Ferrari if Lambos are behind?

I personally find the shifting on my '06 E-gear Murcielago to be much smoother and less jerky than it ever was on my F430 -- and my wife agrees with that. She basically refused to be a passenger in the F430 because of the jerkiness, but is fine with the Murci. Her favorite by far was an M3 with DCT -- she still raves about that :)

I tried the F430 in all modes - there was a slight improvement after getting a new clutch and getting the PIS adjusted, but still nothing like the Lambo.

I haven't really driven the Lambo in Sport mode, and haven't driven a 458, so cannot really compare those.

    Here we go .

I personally find the current transmissions of Ferrari incredibly boring (and I ignore the gated versus paddle bit, I've made my peace with it). They're smooth, yes...but if you want a smooth car buy a Rolls. Lamborghini's ISR gearbox is not only innovative (50ms shifts and 40kg lighter than 7 speed Ferrari box :)) but it brings some feel back into the car, as that's what Lamborghini was aiming for. Perhaps too much as a lot of people where complaining.

Yeah, but apart from getting your head snapped back and forth when shifting isn't all of that going to destroy the gearbox over time?

I don't think so; I don't think the gears are overlapping eachother briefly, it just comes back very violent which is somewhat easy so adjust with software.

Also, I believe the complaints where only when the car is in Corsa mode (kind of have to expect a more violent shift imo...)
