When a customer specs a car via Ferrari's Tailor Made program, is there some kind of indication on the window sticker that the car went through the Tailor Made program? If so, do you know how it would look on the window sticker, and/or what it would say? If there is indeed an indication on the window sticker, and someone could post a picture as an example, that would be even better. Thank you.

I don't know about the window sticker, but owners can specify a TM dedication plate in the car.

I find this rather funny as EVERY car that goes down the line at Maranello has its own spec sheet. There are NO random selection cars built; every car is either a customer or dealer order. The factory holds no inventory these days. People who think they are getting some special treatment through TM are deluding themselves.

That is not exactly true. There are indeed options available at TM in Maranello which cannot be ordered outside of the program.

What I know, and what I'm speculating...

What I know - was at Maranello last week spec'ing our next car, and we did explore some TM items and approaches. In the end, we did not pursue it, as for this car, it really did not "fit". However, the experience was enlightening and enjoyable.

Also, given we got quite the complete and atypical tour, we did see a few TM cars in production. The vast majority of TM stuff is special materials, (fabric, leather, hides, skins, stitching, or painting) which are either painted outside (similar to the 3 layer), sewn outside, or fabricated either inside or outside (eg. if you pick a teak lined boot).

However, in most cases (we asked), the cars are built "normally" on the line, only in rare cases does the car need off-line work to actually install anything special. By definition, the TM stuff seems to be just different materials/finishes, but 1mm underneath is the same exact car.

I did notice the factory build orders, and (while I cannot translate it), it was easy to see what the option codes were, and some were Extra Campionario, some were Special Request, and some were TM (though the TM stuff was so different, it was obvious). No pictures for you, but not secret, either, as they showed us the orders (no client names are on factory orders).

What I don't know, but would sense to be true:

Have seen a few TM cars at our dealer, but didn't notice any TM callouts on the Monroney. Every one of our cars has had some Extra Campionario, which is never called out either on the Monroney, or the invoice, but is on the build sheet. (the infamous "other options" line with the big $$ figures)

I also believe that the post-production test/evaluation building and process (which we saw) has a bit of "final finishing and offline assembly", I'd imagine that some things are done there (or potentially even outside). Quite frankly, it's the 2nd most fun thing at Maranello to see behind Classiche

Hope this helps, I know it's not an absolute answer. One way to find out would be to call a dealer who does a lot of this (eg. Steve Daley at Miller Motorcars)

Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the write up. When we were there, we experienced the same thing. One option I contemplated was purchasing a paint color which they said had not even been named yet and, with the purchase, came your ability to attach an official name which the factory would use henceforth. I choice a TM Historic Color ( Rosso Bordeaux) instead and given that it was an extra $30,000, I can only imagine what they would charge for the paint with naming rights!!!!!

Mark just curious. How does Rosso Bordeaux compare to Rubino Micalizzato and Rosso Fiorano? Is it Metallic, and is it tri layer? The price suggest it is tri layer, yes?

Believe it or not, Rosso Bordeaux is neither triple layer nor metallic. Not really sure why it costs so much other than its historic designation. Pretty expensive.

Sorry, I get that the TM has options outside the normal selections, what I meant was that EVERY car is built to order, the TM is reallly an additional extra options list / program and I think some purchasers are unaware that any car they order will be custom built to their personal combination, whether it's from the 'standard' or TM list.
