Is anyone else going to this Saturday's Rally in the Hamptons? I was at last year's event and it was great. If people are driving out east, I thought we could meet somewhere and drive out "en masse" If anyone is interested in attending, you would need to contact the event organizer(see below) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yep. 2 1/2 hour drive out there so I figure I leave NNJ about 8:30, probably connect with a couple others & hit there around the 11:00am start time.
Anybody interested in meeting up? I was thinking at Americana Manhasset mall & leave there at 9:00am. We usually meet on the Northern Blv/Searingtown side at the flags. Anybody? Anybody?
How about meeting further east - it's on the way. I live in suffolk and it would take me 20 - 30 minutes to drive west to the Americana. There is a Park and Ride at Exit 52 (commack rd) on the LIE. It is a big lot and empty on the weekends. Thoughts?
I'm to pick up a friend at 10:00am at the offices right off exit 63 of the LIE. North Ocean Ave I'm told. I'll be in a red/tan '83 308GTB. It's tough to miss. And sure, the more the merrier.
I'll post pics later. Picture the traffic in the Hamptons on the last weekend before Labor day. Brutal. There were 70 cars registered. I counted about 55 prior to the drive. The oldest was a 275 and I think one Dino. The vast majority were 360/430s. A 458 showed up. It was a great day, lots of sponsors. Well laid out. Girlfriends & wives were dressed nicely, though heels in pea-gravel had to be rough. The cars were laid out well amongst the throng and it was nice. There was a small table with bagels, danish, coffee, some fruit & such. We left a little late for a 45mile(ish) drive around the Hamptons. Maps and detailed directions were included. The police were there at the launch and placed sporadically around the route. Some of the locals knew about the event, many did not. There were a lot of blaring horns as the locals objected to lines of Ferrari disrupting their traffic flows. And you can bet the circus that ensued. Ferraris got lost, groups went this way & that. Driving through several town centers and pedestrians newly empowered with the crosswalk laws and the obligatory jaywalkers. But everyone seemed to stop & watch as the exotics drove by. It was a bit of chaos. I had an outstanding navigator, we made the whole drive and returned at the prescribed time and the parking lot was full with those who gave up mid course. Lots more cars joined the group. Several 430s, 550, 575, SuperAmericas and three pristine Dinos showed up. It was time for hors d oeuvres and to mingle. But what should have happened was some sort of lunch. Lots of folks were grumbling about being hungry & left for lunch. I'd still rate it as a great day.
Here are 2 crappy "videos" I captured with my phone as they were leaving. It's good at least for the sound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXL7jE81VNo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfQwJMj4PgA

My project at work got postponed and I found myself out East on Saturday. Took a quick run out to the event. Some nice cars. It was nice to meet Clyde and his 308. I did not have my car and wish I had. Next year. Jim
