Festivals of Speed at Avalon in Alpharetta

The 2018 show was fun, if a bit hotter than 2017. I was surprised when I was ushered in to the VIP area on the grass in front of the theater, sharing the space with some historic Jaguars and Ivan's yellow Daytona, among others. I was right in front of Goldberg's deli, which made my lunch choice easy.

And I have a friend who has a black Trans-Am otherwise identical to this one. I don't recall ever having seen a blue 'bird before. The "screaming chicken" looks good in blue!

And talk about the brute force approach. This '67 Camaro (and I was told you can tell it's a '67 because it still has front vent windows) has no less than 572 cubic engines crammed under the hood!

So for parking requirements, 1 Cadillac = 2 Fiats!

 

Ivan won the Prancing Horse award, for the best Ferrari (of course), with his lovely Daytona, which I was privileged to share the rug with. A very nice '49 Diamond T pickup won Best in Show.

Here is more of the Ferrari action, including Chuck Beam's 250 GTE, which I hadn't seen in a while. Ever notice how the current V-12 cars have rather sinister smiles?

There was a very eclectic group of motorcycles, many brought by Blue Moon Cycles, starting with a couple of Russian Urals with sidecars and a Czech Jawa with a neat little trailer. Also represented were MV Agusta, Zero and Zundapp. There was also an interesting Yamaha custom across the street.

If you're into riveted aluminum, Blue Moon was setting up a couple of tables that looked like they might have been built by Lockheed Martin! Or perhaps by Tupolev, whose now-familiar aerosledge was parked east of the show area, near the hotel.

As a nice bonus, every registered Ferrari owner received a nice cavallino statuette. So we all got a "trophy" just for bringing our cars! I wonder what the Lamborghini/Maserati/McLaren/Aston Martin owners thought about that!
