5 hours on the snow last saturday...sensationnel! The other drivers couldn't believe... Sent from my VKY-L09 using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Image Unavailable, Please Login Same here last WE but with my GTC4Lusso in snowy Switzerland. The other drivers were looking at me as I was an alien driving a Ferrari in the snow. Must have been a first time experience for them Ineresting for me was to test the different drive modes on the manettino from snow mode up to sport. What a huge difference that makes! Much harder to feel in summer conditions. Bottomline: The 4wheel drive works perfect when you need it!
Fabulous! Is it wearing PA4, Sottozero, or something else? I have read that snow mode significantly cuts power which might be needed at times of trying to make a turn through an intersection. Someone mentioned at a post (on FF) in the past about having to turn the dial to normal to get enough power to make the turn quickly before turning it back to snow mode. Did you experience something similar to that?
My FF wears Sottozero's. I really haven't noticed the 'intersection' problem. Yes you have to rev a little bit more. But no problems here.
Still snowy weather here, daily driving the FF...no problem at all, even when power is needed...of course if the ground is frozen then you have to be patient..and careful[emoji51] Sent from my VKY-L09 using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I never go to snow mode. With the pirellis the car is planted. What does snow mode do exactly? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Snow mode goes into softest suspension setting and most conservative traction and stability controls, but biggest difference is the front wheels are powered regardless of rear wheel traction in snow mode.
+1 I found the FF easier to control in comfort mode while on the snow than in wet or snow. It moves more but reactions are easier to predict.
we had a few inches of snow and some ice last night - the car sat outside all day so the pirellis were around 18 degrees. i tried the snow setting and not sure if i felt much to be honest. Baron has prob dont more thorough compare and contrast but i guess because the car has always felt planted i never paid too much time trying to sort out the winter setting. For Whats the difference between winter and wet? same idea just different magnitude. So if its snowing but the roads aren't icy, they're just wet, which setting wld be better?
Ehh - I might read this the wrong way, so please explain As far as I know the front wheels will ONLY be active on gear 1 to 4, and has nothing to do with the manettino setting at all?
It is true the front wheels are only powered in first 4 gears. As you go down from sport to wet the PTU(front wheels) will come on sooner. In sport mode the rear wheels are allowed to spin a little before the PTU is active to give more of a RWD feel. In wet mode the PTU will activate more quickly if any rear slip is detected. My understanding is that in snow mode the PTU is always on at least in 1st gear( not sure about 2-4). I just went through a month long PTU replacement and learned quite a bit about the system, then a little more when the 3rd PTU was put in.....long story
What happened with your PTU and at what mileage. Also was it an early FF or a later one, I know somebody who had there’s replaced a few years ago on an early car but he had done 40k miles in 3 year.
I was getting “PTU failure “ warnings for about 6 months, but would go away with restart. Dealer checked it out a couple of times and said nothing was wrong. After I put it in snow mode for the first time I noticed a noise almost like abs activation in the front on takeoff. They changed out the PTU, then a second new PTU, then ecu and a bunch of other stuff. Noise and vibration was less, but still there. They basically gave up and said it must just be the way it is.......after a month. It is a 2012 with 12k miles.
