After about 9150 miles since last October my FF had its first problem today, the sound from the audio system totally quit. My dealer told me that maybe it is a sign that I should not be listening to the stereo but listening to the beautiful sounds from the engine:D. He then suggested resetting the computers by disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes and that fixed it:).

The battery is located in the right rear of the engine bay ... on the right side of the car folks not the left side. There is a panel that is easily removed to get to your dip stick along with the battery, and the battery has a gray quick release on the negative terminal. Flip the release and remove the battery cable. When reconnected you will have to reset the date and time and that is all.

Whew. Your FF hasn't stood still very much. No wonder something wanted a breather.

But this is the first I have heard of a battery reset to cure a downed audio system. That is new, I think.

Maybe you shouldn't listen to all those Boys Bands. The audio system just said one day: "I can't take it anymore!"

Glad you're putting miles on that thing. That's what it was made for!

Mine did the same thing yesterday (19,000 kms). No need to disconnect the battery. Turn off the car, wait 6 minutes and it resets itself....

Yep, I tried that on mine first, did not work. It is a Ferrari so (like this morning with the tachometer lights dead) sometimes things don't work so you normally shut down and restart and all is well, or shut down and wait six minutes then restart. I fully expected the audio to reset like yours with a turn off and power down but it took a full battery reset this time. The magic of electrons and software:).

Yeah I was having Bluetooth silliness with my iPhone on a drive home from work a few weeks ago and the audio unit "crashed" while I was trying to re-pair my phone to it. The screen stayed on but the audio stopped and I couldn't get the head unit to respond to any button presses.

When I got home and turned the car off the radio stayed on which worried me because I thought it would run the battery down. But when I went down to the garage a short while later to check on the car, the head unit had turned off. When I started up the car it was as if nothing went wrong and the audio system worked fine and hasn't glitched again since.

My FF is around 4,500 miles.

the Infotainment systems in the FF (and 458) are several discrete systems (Audio/SAT, Nav, Bluetooth) linked to a few of the cars systems and wrapped under the interface and some other systems (eg. voice recognition).

At times, a simple power on/off, or a delayed re-power up, will clear errors and glitches in the system. What you are experiencing often are classic (software) driver conflicts or transient data corruptions of sorts.

Sometimes you need to do a (hard) system reset. A 12V source on/off (battery reset) will accomplish that, though doing that has other effects on the cars systems. I will look and see if there is a hard reset option within the unit. (of course, if there was documentation we would know as it would be called out...).

Often there is a key sequence that can accomplish that (eg. hold button A, push button C, then button B and hold to initiate reset). I might have to find a Chrysler Minivan manual online and see if they have documentation (it's the same platform, albeit with different interface and buttons).

The "it's frozen on" has happened a few times in the BMWs....

Just one other point: the problems started with the (awful iPhone 5). Ferrari have upgraded the system and while it now works, it does have these quirks.... This evening, impossible to get any sound from my music library on the iphone 5, when connected via cable. Worked fine when connected via Bluetooth..... Go figure.....
