My Danish isn't too good. Was it another case of FSC (Ferrari spontaneous combustion)? If so, that's one hell of a warranty claim, as well as bad publicity.
Not bad for someone who isn't good at Danish You guessed right. Another case of FSC. The driver was driving along minding his own business when he suddenly saw smoke coming out under the hood. Then he saw flames and it spread from the engine bay and inside to the cabin theugh the opening by the pedals. Here's a bit in English http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2012/05/ferrari-ff-burns-to-the-ground-in-poland.html
There was someone on the forum who knew the driver in Germany. Haven't heard from any unofficial sources what could be the reason. Is it a way to increase production numbers? Anyway hope no one gets hurt...
The 458 and now FF are making my 355 look damn near reliable. This is kinda scary for Ferrari on several levels.
I'm starting to think perhaps Ferrari may have disgruntled employees working for them.....these fires don't make Ferrari engineering look good at all
what the hell is going on? does anyone know? i've driven over 50k miles in various f-cars during the past decade and never(knock on wood) had one spontaneously combust!
I personally think some of this is overblown, but not completely. The 458 had 5 fires TOTAL in the first production. There hasn't been a report of one since the recall of every car that had the incorrectly glued assembly in the wheel well. Yes, 5 is too many. But, they fixed the problem and it has not reappeared. There are three reports of FF's. The one in China was not production but sales sample that had been shipped around. The other two, who knows. Lamborghini also had one of their Aventadors go up in flames. It's not only an F car problem but the 2 FF's are disturbing.
For the FF, no. For the 458 they did in 2010. The US usually gets the cars last. That may explain why we have fewer issues. I also suspect that sometimes improper repair can be one of the issues here. When you have a brand new car, it's possible for a mechanic to make a mistake. That is no excuse though. I'm not excusing anything. I'm just offering a theory.
Total number of cars out there and number of cars burnt is too low to to expect some global normal distribution of self combustion. If all the cars burn to crisp its going to be difficult to identify the cause. Might go on for a while...
I hear what you're saying However weren't there a few cases of Lexus/Toyota brake failure cases as opposed to the total global production for there to be a firestorm in the US? Major Recalls, Tort cases, Congressional hearings, media witch hunt etc. etc. Or being a European Company and especially an Italian one with many Congress members of Italian heritage they will let this one slide? I'm surprised none of the Legal Sharks haven't jumped on this yet or the lawyers of FNA are that formidable? S
I just drove an FF hard today, and the car maintained a very even and controlled engine temperature. My 612 seems to run hotter than the FF overall, which makes these news incidences a bit unusual to me, at least. Incredible car.
