I promised a short video clip weeks ago, so here it is, better late than never! Apologies in advance for the crap camerawork! The clip begins with the engine starting with the valves closed. You'll hear when they open a few seconds in. I then close them again and then finally re-open them. Unfortunately the sound quality doesn't do it justice, but it should give you an idea. My FF has the full Capristo system with x-pipe, which is louder then the OEM system even with the valves closed, although, without a side by side comparison with the OEM system, it's very difficult to compare. Once you open the valves, it's much louder! Definitely sounds much better in the car too. Just emphasises that fantastic FF V12 engine note. No regrets and thoroughly recommend it to anyone considering the swap.

    Thanks for posting.

The sound seems similar to my Novitec-exhaust equipped FF. I also found that the major effect is in the valves-open position, which is now MUCH louder and mean sounding. The valves-closed position is also louder as you say but not as dramatic. This is good because I want to retain the quieter sound for longish trips. In contrast, the stock exhaust does not seem to give much sound contrast between closed and open valve positions.

Also the sound IN THE CABIN is much enhanced. There is a great deal of sound proofing in the FF and the stock exhaust has a beautiful quality but is a bit too quiet for me (I do have a fair amount of hearing loss).

Like you, on longer trips, I'm glad to have the quieter option, the valves open noise can be too much at times! On shorter blasts, I love the extra noise in the cabin. Sounds fantastic :)

Thanks FFMAC....sounds great but then Mr Oblige's Novitec does too.
Who fitted yours FFMAC, scuderia systems?...also did you compare the capristo at all to the novitec or anything else?, should imagine the X pipe makes quite a difference volume wise

    Hi Chris,

I bought it from Scuderia Systems but had it fitted by Kent High Performance Cars / The Ferrari Centre. I looked at the Novitec system, but went for the Capristo option based on price alone. It's rumoured that they're produced by the same factory anyway, so I don't think there'd be that much of a difference between the two. The x-pipe is supposed to offer an F1 type wail at high revs! I haven't heard the system without the x-pipe as it was all installed together, so can't comment I'm afraid. Sounds amazing though!

    Mac.

Great. Enjoy! I'm having the Capristo system removed tomorrow and the OEM exhaust replaced on my current 2012 FF due to my new 2015 FF being delivered Wednesday. Will be interesting to see the difference going back to the original system for a day! Will then be reinstalling the Capristo on the '15 FF as soon as possible! :D

Congrats MAC. I almost bought a 15 but loved this 2012 so much I had to buy. Plan to enjoy for a couple years at least then bump to a 17 if I like the newer style.

Collected my FF today after having the Capristo system removed, ready for the dealer to collect on Wednesday and deliver my 2015. Life is VERY quiet without the Capristo!! :)

I am really looking to do this on my car this spring. Weird thing is the dealer was warned me of "Ferrari Warranty" issues, I don't get this position they take. Anyhow the car definitely needs some more sound inside the cabin with the windows up - windows down it sounds nice after 4k rpm.

Definitely recommend it if you're looking to hear the V12 song in the cabin. I actually use mine with the valves closed 99% of the time as it's the perfect volume for me. It is too loud with the valves open in my opinion, but that's just personal taste. It sounds fantastic whichever way you drive it. I've had no warranty issues whatsoever here in the UK. My Ferrari dealership didn't install the system, but they were consulted beforehand and have carried out services in the car with the system in place and it's never been a problem. Looking forward to reinstalling it on my new FF which arrives later today :) :)

I saw your video and am really looking forward to having this done in the fall, wonder if my dealership would do it? The warranty expires in February 2016 so I would be at risk for a few months?? I am also contemplating the 2016 refresh model or adding another car to the stable with the difference in money of a new one versus mine etc. Reality is that for the foreseeable future nothing comes close to meeting my needs like an FF. A 458/488 would be fun but in the end I feel like it would be a garage queen for me.

Warranty DEFINITELY not affected here in the UK, so I can't imagine it would be any different there? You won't regret the Capristo! :D

I too toyed with the idea of adding another Ferrari to the stable, but ultimately, like you, knew it would end up hardly being used, so decided on a new FF instead, which I knew would be used. It wasn't a very difficult decision for me! :)

I have now the Capristo and can confirm it is simply delightful. My dealer also confirmed no warranty issues as it is cat back.

ffmac did you do a high flow cat as well?
    any manettino functionality?
what I like about my novitec setup is the ability to have comfort act as it did stock and then in sport it keeps the valves open all the time. very neat option.

The Capristo has a remote (i keep on my key chain) you can have baffles open in comfort and sport or vice versa. A better option IMO then just open in sport and closed in comfort thru the steering wheel. Also $7k not $15k.

No high flow cats. I too just wanted the key fob operation as I prefer to choose when I open and close the valves, so the manettino doesn't affect the system.

Had the Capristo installed on the new FF today. Global order has been restored :)

As an experiment, I had the exhaust system installed without the x-pipe this time. The sound seems more 'rumbling' rather than 'howling' if that makes any sense. Not a huge difference and difficult to quantify, but thought I'd try it for a while. It's only an hour's labour to install the x-pipe alone, so I'm keen to try it without for a while. To be honest, there's not a very noticeable difference, so not sure I'll even bother.

I felt the same way when I first did my Capristo but I think the car gets a bit louder over time. Maybe the mufflers need to cleaned out with initial engine exhaust?? The rumbling is definitely there after the initial firing up and where Ive noticed my car wailing at about a 20% noise increase (vs stock) is above the 4k rpm mark. Ive put about 400 miles on the car since I installed it and maybe its placebo but I really think it go louder as the exhaust was cleaned out. (No x pipe) I also have the capristo on my 458 but with test pipes instead of cats and the thing is freaking loud!!!! Its too loud IMHO for the FF and daily driving.

This was on day one as I left the shop with the valves closed:
