Just came back from ski trip to Aspen and I saw a Ferrari Gremlin I mean FF cruising downtown w MFG plates, didnt get a look at the driver.

I suppose Aspen could be the natural prowling grounds for the FF. Definately needs a ski rack though :)

I had suggested a "Rocky Mountain Edition" with a lift kit, camouflage paint, a gun rack, a winch and fuel can with an embossed prancing horse chained to the rear.

Aspen is not your normal rugged Colorado mountain town. Ask PhilNotHill.

Ferrari is offering test drives of the FF in Aspen through February. I did it on Saturday and went out for an hour with a professional driver. It was a great experience. There was plenty of snow and ice to experience the car in. I would highly suggest doing it.

I question whether Aspen is really a "car" town.

We have some Astons. Bentleys, Ferraris and lots of Porsches (seems every other car is a Pcar).

The powers that be discourage driving and parking here to the max. Then there is conspicuous consumption which seems to be on the outs since the 2008-201x recession. Prius is the "in" car here it seems.

I have seen one metallic red FF this winter. Was it an FNA car? No clue. No markings.

We have some truly great Fcar collections here. The owners have kept them under wraps for the last 4 years.

My 360 F1 Spider is well received. Seeing an Fcar here is very rare nowadays. Usually the only Fcar I see here is my own lately. Gets lots of wave and smiles. Tourists love to take pictures.

    Life is good.
Life is better driving a Ferrari.

Well...in the way that Estelle Getty reminds me of Halle Berry (both have breasts...and eyes...and feet...) I supposed the Gremlin could remind me of the FF....

Ok a gremlin on steroids. My opinion counts for nothing, it's like a large woman or a scooter, you don't want your buddies to see you on one. My apologies to those who like all three. I think it's fugly.

No worries from me. Your opinion is valid. I just don't share it. HOWEVER....the FF isn't exactly an easy one to love at first sight. It took me a little while to totally fall for it. With that being said as the car is improved in future versions I wouldn't mind seeing some of the quirkyness of the design get trimmed out.

Interesting note: Ferrari had two cars at the North American International Auto Show here in Detroit recently. A dark red F12 and a silver FF. While the F12 was getting tons of attention (oooohhhs and ahhhhs and photos)....hardly ANYONE (but me) was looking at the FF! It is an acquired taste for sure.

The FF has grown on me. It's usability is unsurpassed, which makes the case for its looks.

But it has got to be the most butch Fcar in at least 20 years.

The color choice really makes or breaks it however. In person I've seen Rosso corsa, which just seems wrong, Silver which makes it reminiscent of a BMW M, Bianco which is very clean and neutralizes the backpack, and rubino miccalizatto which also works well.

FF has grown on me too.

But, I still don't quite get it. Other than a niche buyer who "has to have a Ferrari" I don't quite understand how someone can rationalize buying it:

    - An SUV like a Cayenne Turbo has better 4WD and better ground clearance
    - It doesn't make much sense driving a $350K car in road salt and sand (assuming money matters)
    - A 4-door is more practical if you want extra seats
    - A 458 or F12 sounds at least as good, drives better, AND looks way better

I am glad Ferrari made it but its appeal can only be as a 4th or 5th car in the stable.

I don't understand how hard is it for people to understand this car.

Ferrari have made a 4 seaters for years. Where's the problem? The FF is just the continuation of Ferrari's 4 seaters front engine V12 but this one is just even more practical. The 456 back seats are a joke, so instead of making a 4 seats car that fits 2, they made a 4 seaters that can fit 4 people. The FF is the replacement of the 612 and 456 but this time, they made the car to be the ultimate grand tourer. Not a fake 4 seaters or a one season car.

    True regarding Ferrari's 2+2 history.

But perhaps it is hard to understand because it doesn't do anything really well (looks, performance, 4wd)... other than being a Ferrari.

That said, if I had more garage space, I would probably buy one.

You compare the FF with other Ferrari's, particularly the 458 and F12. You say the FF falls down on performance in comparison and isn't as good a driver as the aforementioned.

I'd be curious to hear your on-road experience, especially with the F12. Tell us how you came to hold such strong convictions. You're a lucky guy to have amassed enough road time in each of 458, FF and, best yet, the F12 to be so utterly conclusive.

Of course I haven't driven an F12. They've only been unveiled in the US recently. I have a 458 Spider amongst a number of other current cars and a long history of other cars. I used to race in the GT3 class but only as mere amateur.

It doesn't take much imagination that a mid engine car, or a 2 seater with more horsepower (all from the same manufacturer) would have *comparatively* better driving dynamics than a very long, heavy, mid-front 2+2 with occasional 4wd that is said to overheat with vigorous driving.

But you're right, I may be completely delusional... The FF may very well be a much better driving car than the 458 or the F12. The FF could very well be much faster around any race track than the two fore mentioned possibly even setting track records. The FF might even be Ferrari's sleeper of the decade because of how much better it drives than the others. Not sure there is anyone willing to take that bet however.

If you love your FF don't feel insulted by the likes of me, an Internet stranger no less. Go enjoy whatever car floats your boat. As I stated, if I had a 6 car garage (on second though maybe 7) an FF would get the last slot.

Not insulted in the least. Perhaps we're coming at the question from different angles.

I agree with your post in that I'd be very surprised if an FF could better a 458 or F12 on a track........but for where I live, in the miserable weather that is most of Western Europe, the FF will better those cars most of the time on the road.

Racing is great, track days are great........but the FF handles better in "real world" conditions than any other Ferrari I've driven (including 458, but excluding the F12).

Its fun to discuss the relative merits of various Ferrari's. I think the FF's function is better served by my Cayenne GTS. A lot of people think it's ugly too. It's nickname is the "Pig".

I think Ferrari's are bought on emotion not practicality. The FF does not hit me that way. My 458 does. But that's just me. The FF is great to drive.

However they are not making you buy a 458 spyder or F12 so you can get an FF.

I never understood the rational behind 4 seat coupes in general. No adult will want to sit in the back. Ithink thats why ferrari 2+2's have been slowest sellers

Despite that i like th ff. Its better than its competition in all regards ie. Db9, amg cl, bmw m6, jag xkrs, bentley, etc. Closest would be pana turbo s which is much more sensible with 4 doors but not as emotional to drive.

Overall i would prefer a 458 and pana to a ff but still like the ff
