I have 21,000+ miles on my FF now and just the other day I was showing someone the engine and suddenly spotted what appears to be a portion of the seal between the pretty red Ferrari expansion chambers and the intake down runners, sliding out of the intake. The material appears to be cellophane without any glue on it, see the photos. Anyone else see this on their FF and if so what did you do? My dealer is sending the photos to Italy.

No clue. Doesn't look like gasket material. Let us know what you learn.

I have a brand new 2014 FF Rick as you know.
After your post I looked at mine and the engine and guess what? Identical material coming out of the exact same areas. I don't know it's purpose but I'm assuming its normal.

My engine had only 500 or so miles when I spotted this.

Thanks Rick ... it was not there on mine in the early miles, I am quite sure I would have noticed it. We will see what the factory says. And get driving :) you have some catching up to do for my 21,000+ miles

Here is a WAG. It might be backing material for a gasket between the airbox and the intake runners. It would be just an air seal not under great pressure and is not exposed to very high temps, just heat conducted from the combustion chambers below. Cycling up and down over time might extrude some of the stuff you see in the photo. I would bet that it is OK but good to check with the factory.

That is what my guess is too. I planned to trim it off with a razor blade after hearing what the factory says anyway.

    Hi Rick,

Just had a look at mine. I can just about see the seal if I look very closely at the chambers and can certainly feel it when running a finger nail down the join. Definitely doesn't look as loose as yours though, but then only 8000+ miles on mine, so have a long way to go to catch up with you! Please keep us informed.

    Mac.

Here are two more data points. As it happens, today I went FF shopping and looked at two of them:
    1. a new '14 with 100 miles. It had no visible seal showing.
    2. a '12 with 3700 miles. It showed a visible seal similar to your photos.

    Hope this helps.

Looks like the entire seal should be inspected and replaced.

Lets us know what Ferrari recommends.

It seems odd that the FF would show this seal extrusion. Maybe it's a V12 thing. I wonder if the f12b will show it. The V8s don't seem to.

Finally, word from the factory, trim the excess seal material off myself, or the dealer will do it next visit

Wow! That's a surprise. I wonder how many monks had to sit down and debate that one.
