My FF has a smell of oil when hot, just above or aft of the oil fill cap. I wonder if they all do this? With 11,300 miles I am not sure if it did this all along. I checked the oil today and although a bit low I think it may be due to the miles. There never has been a drop under the car. The oil filler cap is tight. Any ideas before I call the dealer Monday?

Only service related to potential fluid loss was for electro-hydraulic filler cap replacement (campaign 371). Never noticed oil burning odor on my FF. For peace of mind give your dealer a call to sort it out.

Occasional oil smell, but very intermittent. When it comes, it really comes. Not a drop of leak here either.

I hope there's nothing wrong with your car man! Good luck!

And, btw, let us know what your dealer says!

We have yet to have a "strong" oil smell, though that is obviously something might vary person-to-person.

When we drive either of the cars and they come back hot (warm...), both have a distinctive smell of warm oil....but nothing strong. (my wife refers to it as "that Ferrari smell").

I have not taken a strong whiff near the oil cap, but under the hood I'd say it's strong after a real drive

    Please....keep us posted.

Thanks guys! It is going today just in case. No speeding tickets yet:D but it has seen 162 mph. They probably will pick it up today and look at it tomorrow and I will let you know what they find. Back to driving that slow California for a few days :D

FF will be back tomorrow. No problems! It appears that they seem to do this as MAG's mechanic has noticed the same thing with other FF's and there is no evidence of any oil leak. That is WAY cool except it used probably 1.5 to 2 quarts in 11,500 miles so I will be checking the oil now every couple thousand miles.

    I am a very happy camper! :)

More news coming ... The Ferrari mothership asked MAG to check some additional things so we will find out more today possibly, so maybe it will be back today, maybe not.

And my FF is home. Nothing new found so for now it is considered normal operation. All is well at my place!

I now have 17,000+ miles on the FF. I had it checked for the hot oil smell at about 11,500, and had the oil changed right then too. Just before I sent the FF to the dealer I checked the oil and found it down maybe two quarts. I didn't fill it then because I knew the oil was going to be changed while they troubleshot it.

After getting it back the hot oil smell seemed to go away. In the last few weeks I thought I was able to smell the oil again so I checked the oil this weekend, it was down one quart (1.56 quarts from full mark to the add oil mark). After dropping in a quart (got the 10W-60 from the dealer before) now the oil smell seems to be GONE.

If anyone has the smell of hot oil please do us all the favor of checking your oil using the procedure in the manual. If it is low please add the correct amount and see if the smell goes away like mine did.

I will be watching the next 5,000 miles to see if it happens again.

Looked at this post, then looked at the first one in the thread...damn man you're doing some driving! Love it! :D

I'm kinda surprised the car is using so much oil.

I failed to check it when I got it home from my first oil change so I have no idea where it started. I will check it in another 5,000 miles to see where we are then. Through the winter & spring I was driving my daughter about 18 miles one way to school in the morning, and picking her up in the afternoon. That helps add it up quickly. And I got 1 hour father daughter time every day, and almost two hours of FF time:).
