I am considering an FF or an all wheel drive Lusso because I live in Tahoe and have a couple of dogs I’d like to take on road trips. Any issues on the FF’s or higher mileage Lusso’s that I should look out for?

    Welcome to the forum Brett.

You will find plenty of information on the forum using the search function.
But in sumary, these cars like to be used regularly so mileage shouldn't scare you.
    Also, there were few running changes which make any one model year better than another with the exception of the folllowing;
Early (c.2011-12) FFs are at risk from brittle tie wraps in the DCT box
Late FFs (c.2015 onwards) had an upgraded head unit with the option of carplay
The last Lussos (c.2019) had ADAS

Good luck with your search and when you find one, pictures will be mandatory!

    Welcome!
    You’ll read about PTU failures….
I have a 2012 FF and it’s been very utilitarian. I’ve added Kline 200 cell cats, Novitec X pipe, Novitec exhaust to make the V12 scream. So much car for the money.

I’ve had a 2015 FF w 13k since a year. 21k miles on it now. No mechanical issues. Love the car. Interior leather is peeling / warped in a couple places which I have to fix…but it’s just not easy. If u take it to a ‘reliable recommended’ person to get detailed for ceramic coating etc…you will get skinned. Yolo.

Both FF and Lusso are unique vehicles with nothing similar on the market. I considered a Porsche Taycan but didn't want to miss out on the last of the V12 era. Sound is glorious. Remember the Lusso T is only rear wheel drive not 4-wheel drive so I would not suggest it for Tahoe. Winter tires are a must and there are lots of posts discussing the right tires and sizes.
Two major risks are the PTU (seal leak) and DCT sensor failure. Both used to be very expensive. For the PTU there are now 'reasonable' alternatives to fix it e.g. SSautotech, Simon Furlonger. About $10k. DCT not sure on cheaper fixes to be honest but there could be info on the forum.
Lusso is alot more expensive than the FF but should have warranty and remaining 7 years service. More important to find the right spec that meets your needs and budget.

Simon Furlonger is a blessing but remember the cost doses not include removal and return shipping costs to England..

True - but the Furlonger and SS Autotech costs quoted include removal/refit and UK VAT which is 20%. In both cases, shipping from the US and back would avoid the remova/refit part of their quote and the UK 20% sales tax so you're probably even on the overall costs.

GTE Engineering in New Jersey offer the same PTU fix.

I’m not sure that they do. I’m not very knowledgeable about the GTE fix so I could be wrong. But given that the Furlonger and SS Autotech fixes are different, it would be hard for GTE to offer the same fix as both …

Wrong choice of words on my part , They offer a highly thought of PTU fix.
