Trying to gather some information before I take my car in. I searched the topic, but wasn’t able to find much about it.
Here is a short summery. 2012 FF. Have had it for almost 4 years. It had 14k miles when I got it. have added about 9k miles to it. Most of the miles were added in the first 3 years of my ownership. In the last year it has not been driven much. The car has been getting its annual service on time every year.
About a year ago, it started throwing all sort of warning lights on the dashboard as the battery was going bad. Just before replacing the battery, while driving it, the car popped out of gear to neutral and would not go back in for a few seconds. But then it did. That’s the only time that had happened.
Replaced the battery almost a year ago, I have not seen any of the warning lights come back on except for maybe once. I have driven the car a few times since the battery was replaced. Every time I drove it, it has popped out of gear into neutral. I noticed it does it after the car has been driven 20-30 miles. It happens when I’m at a stop (traffic light) or when I’m rolling in slow traffic, going about 5 mph or so.
Today, it did it a bit differently. I was at a red light. Once I started driving off, while in first gear, it would not go more than 2-3 mph. Almost felt like there was no power. A code appeared on the dashboard but it went away before I could read it. (Saying something inoperable I think) After about 15-20 seconds of me trying to limp and get out of everyone’s way, it gave me full power and I was able to drive off. Went straight home.
I should add I have not seen any evidence of any oil leaks under the car the whole time this has been going on.
    Any input is appreciated.

I like to add, I’ve already read most of the threads about the PTU and I’m not sure if my symptoms are related to that or not.

Could be a speed sensor going bad but not completely failed - hence the initial failure and then normal operation. You need to get an OBD reader to check for any stored codes.
