I'm starting to consider getting an FF, and it's been a while since I've been around one. I had one for about a week 10 years ago as a demo, so I do have some seat time, and I did really like it at the time.

My intention would be to use it as a winter daily driver. We get a few days of snow and lots of days of rain, and the roads around here, while generally pretty good, do have some uneven pavement, potholes, and deeply recessed manholes, so my cars do take some wear. That said, my 612 has never been a problem, and I've had it back and forth across the continent a few times-- and before you ask, I'm keeping the 612.

I'd also like to take the FF skiing, and across some mountain passes on a fairly regular basis, so it would definitely see snow, gravel on the road, etc.

    My questions are:

    1) Is the FF too delicate for this use case? After reading the service records on the one for sale up the forum, I'm starting to wonder-- two PTU replacements, numerous shredded tires and bent wheels... thoughts?

    2) It appears that the rear seats fold down. Will golf clubs fit in the back with the seats down? I have a pretty large golf bag-- won't fit in the 612 trunk-- and this would also be important for me.

    3) Is there a decent ski rack solution? I keep seeing the suction cup things, and I've never had great experiences with suction cups in other applications. But maybe these are better?

    4) Is there any compelling reason to get a GTC4 Lusso over an FF? I would prefer to keep the initial purchase price down, ideally to around $100k or below, but if there was a good reason I might consider going higher.

    5) Related to 4), to get the right car in my price range, I'm expecting to get one with relatively high (for a Ferrari) miles, and maybe some warts on it. Is that a bad idea?

    Thanks for your thoughts!

    1) Not at all. You should talk to Pat R. about his experience with his.
    2) I don’t golf so not sure, but the trunk is fairly spacious so I can’t imagine it being a problem.
    3) Suction cups is probably your best bet. I can’t do on mine since I put clear film to protect the panoramic roof. I do mount my bikes on a seasucker on the back window and it’s incredibly effective if not a little nerve wrecking the fist couple of times.
    4) I think you’ll be happy with the FF but you should try them both and decide for yourself.
    5) high miles should be fine as long as you have service records.

I second all of these answers. Trunk is huge with seats folded.

    Skiing and winter use? Check
Big enough for golf clubs? Check (photo shows two road bikes in the car)
Ski racks? Unnecessary. We carry the skis in the car (the longest pair are 183).
Worried about high miles? Don’t be. The cars need to be used regularly.
FF vs Lusso? FF more raw, Lusso more refined. No wrong answer, just different flavours. It’s a beast compared to the 612 and I expect you’ll be spending less and less time in the 612…

    Good luck!

Can you put in a road bike without removing the rear wheel?

 Italian car … therefore it has to be an Italian bike (or two!).

It’s possible to fit a single road bike in without removing the rear wheel but the packing in the photo was done as part of a two week trip with the bikes so efficient packing was the order of the day.

With the bikes broken down, there was sufficient space that I didn’t even need to remove the tailgate parcel shelf.

Thank you for your answer, as I would like to add a Lusso in the future… and also have italian bikes (Colnago, Pinarello, Willier, maybe Bianchi next year) ;)

With 183 skis in the car, do they have to diagonally? Can you put two pairs in?

I have to check how long mine are, I believe my present skis are 188.

The 183s went in between the front seats so they do obstruct the space between the driver and passenger as they end up resting on the arm rest. They were in a ski bag to protect the leather so that adds bulk as well. My wife’s pair of 155s were stacked on top (in their own bag). Although the skis were initially intrusive, they didn’t affect my ability to drive the car and we pretty soon forgot that they were there at all (and it was a 9 hr drive to the resort).

I'd like to add this, I find the battery charge on the FF to be very annoying vs the GTC4 Lusso. On my FF I have to open the rear hatch and plug it in vs. the GTC which uses a magnetic charger just below the battery so no opening the trunk. It drives me up the wall. But hey that is me.

Beautiful Colnagos by the way ANOpax

I'll agree with all of FerRrari's points in post #2.

I don't know how it is in Colorado, but in Massachusetts as soon as 2 snowflakes fall you would think we were having the blizzard of the century. The towns spread so much salt on the roads it's ridiculous. There are times when I'd like to take the FF out, but I have to wait for a good rain to wash the salt off the damn roads! :D

I'm in Oregon. They generally don't use salt on the roads here, although if they did and I get an FF, I probably wouldn't let that stop me.

This car won't be a garage queen!

No, the Ferrari charger is the same as the CTEK charger.

So what about tires? I know Pirelli has some new, high performance all-season tires with the 3-mountain snow tire rating, is that a possibility?

Or just go with two sets-- winter and summer?

If you’re planning to go anywhere with guaranteed snow rather than hedging against the risk of snow, you need a set of winter tyres. And get a set of rims for them too rather than swapping tyres on and off the same rims.

Here, they make it a big deal to say they don't use salt anymore, they use 'brine'.

Well geniuses, guess what 'brine' is? LOL
