My RPM display goes blank once in a while suddenly while driving the car. The sound system goes mute a the same time. When I switch the car off and then on again, the problem goes away and all is back to normal. The dealer does not know what to do. I have all current software updates installed. Any idea?

Ask the dealer to contact the area rep or directly to FNA.

the quote from the mechanic at the dealer will sound something like this....' ehhh, we drove the car and couldnt replicate the problem....ehhhh, they all do that sometimes....ehhh if it happens again, bring it back.........

    GOOD LUCK, lmao

my car does the same funky stuff too. when you re-start it seems to fix itself. they are still italian cars!

I have 2012 FF and have intermittent BS with seatbelt handover not working. Electronic gremlins seem to be the norm in Ferrari. I had worse electrical malfunction issues with my Maserati GT convertible though (sold the Maserati in trade for the FF). As you said, the service guy can never duplicate intermittent problems and the messages/fault codes are never recorded in vehicle log for verification of your claims. I had to take snapshot of dash as verification when error condition appeared. Hard to document sound of stereo going to mute though. I've owned my FF for 10 months and upon review based on driving experience and satisfaction I'd been happier (based on reliability, comfort, convenience features, and value) if I'd bought an AMG Mercedes.

The Ferrari technical team don't have an answer to the problem....

From the description, it sounds like the power is going away from these subsystems. Check for loose fuses or more likely a loose power cable. Does it happen when you hit a bump or take a turn?

A software bug could also do this but losing two systems together seems unlikely tho not impossible. A trigger for that most likely wouldn't be a physical trigger (bump or turn).

If the problem doesn't happen from a bump or something like that I would try resetting all of the computers by disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds. You will have to reset all of your car setup stuff again but that only takes a few minutes. The battery disconnect is under the panel that covers the oil tank and dipstick. There is a quick release disconnect there. It takes a coin or common screwdriver to get the panel off (might as well check your oil while you are there ... and if you do FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE MANUAL).

I had to reset mine a couple months ago for a stereo problem that came up (forgot what it was)

Then I would bet a wiring issue ... that might be a bit hard to find. All the best of luck! I had a 2010 California with wiring issues however it was for the air bags and a bunch of the cars had the same issue. Hopefully Ferrari has seen this one before and might know which connector is screwed up.

I read this thread when first posted, but now I'm confused. To the OP, when you say "RPM display" are you saying the tach is inoperative, or referring to the passenger display, or....?

IF it's an LCD display, is it just the RPMs, or any of the data displayed? When the stereo goes to mute, does the infotainment system go off?
