So we’ve brought the ‘new’ F12 home and one of the surprises (pointed out by my son during a tunnel run) is that it doesn’t scream like the FF does. I agree with him. For those of you who have extensive experience of both cars, is this something you’d agree with or do we have a dud F12?

They have different exhaust systems, as to which once screams more, that's a toss up to me, in their OEM form.

What I have seen is remove the rear mufflers, add in straight pipes in their place, THEN you will have a car that screams!

    Inexpensive, reversible, and proven results!

Can't answer your question, but I don't think there is such a thing as a "dud" F12. :D

Congrats on the new car and I wish you good luck with it!

Lots of drone without the resonators...good for noise but not good for regular use

Beautiful choice. Very simple to first pin the valves open and then go from there.

Bizarrely I would like my F12 to be quieter on start up, or at least the neighbours would ;)
I have no idea if this is possible.
When on the move the noise is just great for me.
Anyway, welcome to the club, the best looking modern Ferrari in my humble opinion.

    Right!
My FF screams also a bit louder than my F12, both cars with their oem exhaust and valves pinned.
The FF being 44000km and the F12 only 7000km I thought the F12 mufflers were not "burnt" enough...

In the other hand the F12 flywheel being lighter the throttle response is a bit more agressive, and the sound.

I start mine right before I open the garage door so the door blocks the startup bark. My valves are pinned open.

My bad! I meant to say mufflers, not resonators!

I’m glad I’m not imagining it. Our F12 is a 2013 with 40k km and the FF is 2011 with 35k km so both finely aged and of comparable vintage.

It’s not so much the loudness but the pitch - the FF simply wails more in a high pitch Formula 1 (from the 90s!) way than the F12.

Nothing better than a low speed tunnel run in an FF, I feel like I'm going 180 while going maybe 35

I had again the same demonstration last week end running the both cars, sure the FF sound is better than the F12's. Tone is deeper.
I would even say it annoys me! The FF is the "luxury" one and the F12 should be the beast!
It makes me considering a pair of 200cells catpipes, I'm not sure with the xpipe as I read everywhere it raises the pitch, and what I like with the FF sound is its deeper/lower tone.
    Pff, great problems...

I dont think the x-pipe would change much at low rev though. It's really more for the top of the range.

I never heard an Xpipe (nor any exhaust mod) on our V12s in person, Not sure if I order some 200 cells catpipes only, to "see", or the Xpipe with...

I think the 200 cell catpipes will bring a much bigger difference than the x-pipes. I'd start with that if you want more low rev rumbles.
