I think it's called the Power Transfer Unit. I jokingly/ironically call it a PTO, power take off ... like you have on a farm tractor :) Obviously a far more elegant result.

I wonder if Steve can explain why Ferrari doesn't have this kit in every dealership. Locally, a 1 month old/new car waited 6 weeks for a repair, parts came from Italy. On a known issue that's not good service for any maker. The service manager was not happy, the client was far less happy!

Are you sure it was, and if so how? I was told they let it ride based on a numbers/miles/costs assessment.

The wire. You covered it :)

Low on fluids from the factory? How else would that happen?

Agree on all, from what I know and Steve seems to back up. Good info. Thank you.

    More like $3000-6000?

Can you address any updates since 2009 or 2001 to this electrical issue in the rear?
Getrag made changes to the original unit?
    Failures have stopped?
If it's going to fail is it a thing that happens randomly? Early on? With racing/heat?

Thanks ... this one issue is the only part of the FF that should worry anyone, IMO, and it's not common.

If you are driving along in the auto mode can you just start using the paddle shifters or do you need to stop and change to manual ?

If the car is in Auto, you can just start using the paddles and the car will temporarily go into Manual mode. It reverts to Auto after a short time of not using the paddles, approx 10 seconds from memory.

And you do not need to stop to go from full Auto till full manual mode - just push the "AUTO"-button.

And even in Manual mode, the car will downshift itself to a stop as you are braking.

It's a nice transmission, less smooth (intentionally has a slight F1 kick in Sport) and also faster and more fun than the PDK in my 911 :)

Today the sensitive girl decided to lurch from 1st to 2nd quite violently then it wouldn't rev above 3500 revs. Tried sport comfort and wet modes didn't like it kept changing up at 3500 . In manual mode wouldn't shift down if it put the revs over 3500 and would just sit at 3500 no matter how hard you plant your foot.
Any ideas? Stopped the car switched off still the same and while in P wont rev above 3500 it's like it's protecting the engine.

I’m not sure how similar the tranny/engine software is in the FF, but I daily drive a Lusso (2000mi/mo) and it’s in auto/comfort 99% of the time. Anything over 30mph and you’re in 7th gear. There’s so much torque, it upshifts at like 1800rpm. Overall, very comfortable cruiser.
One thing to be aware of is the size of these cars. I believe the FF is pretty similar to the Lusso, and it’s roughly the same length/width as an F150 single cab. The nose is deceivingly long.
    Overall, incredible DD.

if you’re looking at an FF, look into a Lusso T - some crossover in the prices
