I think i read somewhere that Ferrari dealers try not to buy in any cars that dont have the carbon driver zone. Not sure how accurate it is.

I kind of get that if it's a super low volume special as some people buy it to speculate or just park it up and look at it. But it looks a bit odd on an FF don't you think?

It's interesting how ambivalent I am to carbon fiber, I don't see the obsession with it, particularly on a car of this weight. On a Lotus it's a different conversation.

If we all liked the same thing the world would be a very boring place.

When i was speccing my 12C all those years ago, i too couldnt see the attraction of carbon. But i realise now that without it, the car is considered "cheap spec" and as a result difficult to sell on.

I don't think anyone is suggesting decorative carbon is a weight reducing feature in a relatively chubby Ferrari ! But woe betide anyone selling a poverty spec car - its very hard.

So what item's are the essentials for a car not to be considered poverty spec?

As we're talking about trim, I was browsing the FF's for sale in Germany for no other reason than I wanted to look at colour combinations to see what looked nice.

Whilst browsing I came across this "FF yachting" which appears to have a teak lined boot and other bits of trim.

I love the paint (blu Sterling) but the interior is an acquired taste.

A couple of comments, keeping in mind my car is in the south of france and serviced in Monaco, so not the UK but some trends a looking similar.

The prices were firm for later FF (14-16) until deliveries of GTC actually started happening (October - November 2016) rather than promised. The main dealer now has 6 FF for sale plus a couple on consignment... with more on the way now that FF owners can order new GTC with all the options and mirror their original spec (the carbon fibre inserts were only in configurator after the summer).

Add another 5-6 FF's in a 60 mile radius and there is going to be huge pressure on prices in 2017, as more FF owners will wait for early GTC gremlins to be sorted before ordering.

Which is why I will probably upgrade my 2011 Grigio Ferro Cuoio Toscano for a late model in 2017 so as to have a larger balance of warranty and 7 year service.

Options are subjective / by country. I would not want to live without the ELEV lift option, I have used this many times in steep carpark, large sleeping policeman, on snow etc.

The ELEV lift option is one of things that would really be helpful where I live.

You've kind of confirmed my feelings which is why I'm in no rush to get into an FF. I think I want to be in a 2015 or later car for exactly the same reasons as you.

I'm happy to watch the market and wait for the right car to come along.

New to the market yesterday at HR Owen London, really nice spec including no shields on the wings and subtle brakes caliper colours plus no privacy glass, suspension lift and front cameras.

In a lovely blue. This is pretty much how I would spec a car but would probably have gone Sabbia.

I'm not generally a fan of Cuoio but I'm warming to it and boy does it work on this car.

This one won't hang around long.

Blu America (or Americano), the color of HR Owen's 2012 FF, is special and rare and had an upcharge on the FF of $11,000 in the U.S. It is a dark metallic blue with the metal flakes a lighter blue. The perceived color varies from dark purple to blu Pozzi to almost black. This is a highly optioned FF in a gorgeous color. Although I too am not a fan of Cuoio (although the semi aniline Cuoio Toscano may be a bit different in color from Cuoio), it does work with the deep blue exterior.

After having seen Sabbia, the only colour interior i would consider is black with contrast stitching. Feels far more 2016 than anything else. There is just too much interior space in an FF, and getting the right colour is important as it will be very visible.

Absolutely fabulous interior color combo. Wow, that semi-aniline interior in Cuoio Toscano is absolutely amazing.

Well the HR Owen car sold the first day it was listed and I'm not surprised. It was a stand out specification and the price looked sensible.

Question from someone unfamiliar with how VAT in the UK works: Did the buyer of the HR Owen FF have to pay VAT on the sales price, or was that not applicable, since it was a previously owned car and VAT was paid when the car sold new?

Most used cars are not subject to sales tax (VAT). The only time a used car in the UK is subject to VAT is if the first owner who bought the car new was a VAT registered Company, then the car will be listed for sale as "VAT Qualifying". Often this doesn't actually effect the value at all, but if you happened to buying the car through a VAT registered company it effectively makes it 20% cheaper. Then when you come to sell the car your company charges VAT on the sale.

In the UK all advertised prices always include all taxes if there are any included in the sale. The government feels that the price you see is the price you pay, which is sensible IMO.

I stopped buying or leasing cars through my company nearly 10 years ago now, the taxes for doing so are now so punitive that it's cheaper to buy privately these days.

    I hope that makes sense.

One thing I thought when I was looking at the HR Owen car and also the images of yours is this leather/colour ages well. It doesn't look worn or grubby but rather has a nice patina to it.

Thanks for the explanation of VAT. If the 20 percent still had to be paid on top of the advertised prices, that would be quite an additional hit to the wallet.

I think VAT is charged on the profit element of used trade cars but may be wrong

Yeah the trader pays VAT on his profit only and not the entre transaction value, it's called the margin or marginal scheme I think.

I am actually very suprised to hear this. There are many very similar in age and mileage cars on the market that have not moved for ages. Obviously there was someone out there who wanted this interior/exterior colour scheme. I still feel that the Romans car is very well priced...if only i could get my head round those "velour" seats....
