We're starting to suspect some tinkering with the exhaust. The valves seem to be operating normally but we need to get it on a ramp and get the undertrays off to see if something has been altered.

I took a friend out today who owns a Ferrari and has driven an FF and he was hearing the same drone I am. It creates a frequency vibration in the shell and he commented he could feel it vibrating through the back of his seat. So it sounds like something isn't quite right somewhere. The moment we get over 1500 rpm the tone changes and the drone immediately disappears.

I drove an FF and liked it

But, a couple years ago, I drove the
GTC4 at Pebble Beach. OMG was my first thought
Drive the GTC4 & I think you will be sold. Yes extra $$ but we’ll worth it in my opinion

I wonder if the Michelins play a big role in this. I have them on my 997 and they are insanely loud.

Now that I think about this, I felt this in a car I just test drove at Merritt partners. It’s the FF they have for sale.

So I have been actively looking for cars and I have gone to go visit quite a few so I will recap the cars I have test driven.

I saw the Salt Lake City car that another member was having issues. It had a massive stereo system. The same went with a car at Ferrari palm beach that was heavily modified. These cars don’t handle heavily modified electronics well, hell they can’t even keep a battery charge for 3 days.

the FF at merit partners in atlanta: I went there to go buy this car. Although they had the car originally priced at $169k and they were going to take $145. Although they told me the car would be detailed, it wasn’t and the paint felt like sandpaper. So I get there flying in from Houston, keep in mind I have a small ocd issue. The drivers door rubber upper trim was stained with a weird sap. The dash needed to be recovered and replaced ($10k at least). The headliner was starting to come off so that will have to be done too. I did feel a drone at under 1500 rpm. There was scratches in the lower panels drivers wheel panel. The car drove great and the rest was fine. The car has a 1 year power 15 but the gash on the dash with the ripped leather just stares at you and almost winks at you. Seats were hard. Passed on the car as too many things put together.

I drove the gtc at lambo Houston. The car is dropped and has straight pipes. The straight pipes are insanely loud, lol. They want like $269 for the car which makes no sense as you can get a cpo for cheaper. The car was way more comfortable than the ff. I remember testing a gtc a long time ago and my biggest memory of it was the hard seats? Although really liked this car wouldn’t buy as I feel a cpo car would be a smarter choice.

The FF at Ferrari Beverly Hills. They want $185 for the car although listed at $199. The car although in great condition with only $3400 miles has oxidation on the front air dam grills, the rear view mirror is scratched ($3k to replace), scratched wheel, and the worst stickies job you can possibly think of. The rest of the car is beautiful and the leather smells great. Daytona seats were very comfortable. I offered $180 but the sales guy wanted $183 with the cpo but the rest of the car was as is….passed on this as I believe that at this price the car should be perfect.

I am looking at a GTC at Ferrari of ft lauderdale for $230k with an original msrp of $320, they sold the other car at the same price they had with a msrp of $380. I told the sales guy that didn’t make any sense. They don’t want to come down, the car is priced at $230 and that’s what they want, keep in mind it has almost no options. Ventilated seats option keeps me from this. I should get this car….

so that’s what I have, I’m a journalist at heart so I thought I would share..

Pretty much, I didnt see it as $3k, I saw it as the stickies, the mirror ($3k, can you believe the stupid mirror is $3k!), curb rash, rusted grills and so on, i figured about $14k in repairs? But for the dealer, who makes 6% off the sale, that is a silly number to let the sale go. Butt hey dont care, as the car is a consignment car.

The whole rear view mirror is around 229 GBP at scuderia parts and easy to replace by yourself. 3k sounds too much!

I haven’t driven the Lusso but the FF is an amazing car, probably the best all around that I’ve driven. I’m on my third one. Hard to justify the price difference IMO unless $90k out of your bank account doesn’t make you break a sweat

$145k for a CPO 2015 with 20k miles sounds absurdly cheap in the current market. I sold my 2012 with 40k miles 2 months ago for $150k. Even before Covid that price would be super cheap for that spec.

Update on the road noise/tyre noise on my 2014 FF.

A friend (and 575 owner) suggested I dropped the tyre pressures after I'd confirmed I was running the suggested pressures from the manual for Michelin MPSS (although my tyres are PS4S).

He lent me a very accurate analogue pressure gauge so I allowed the car to sit overnight in my garage and set all four tyres to 2 Bar exactly (about 29psi) The difference is huge, in both ride comfort and road noise, I'm astonished at the difference actually.

So the punchline is to run less than what the manufacturer recommends? The same pressure on all four corners?

Well it certainly seems that way from my particular set up. I have a 300 mile round trip on Sunday on motorways so I'm going to get a proper chance to see how it feels after last weeks trip.

I am running PS4S's which I have read have reasonably stiff sidewalls. So maybe reducing the pressure a little offsets the firmness of the tyres somewhat.

I was watching the pressures and temperatures today on the dash and once warm they are running around 32-33psi when set at 29psi stone cold.

It seems that's the sweetspot for my car/tyre set up on UK rough roads. In comfort or Sport with Bumpy Road mode on.

Im not sure in other markets, but in the USA there is a recommended pressure displayed on the inside of the door area on a sticker, and if you were to look at the owners manual you will often find the recommended pressure is a little different. Usually its in bar and you have to convert. I am running slightly wider front tires, but I've found on my Lusso I like running 28/29 PSI cold pressures for the summer time. Id just bump it slightly for cooler days. I note the TPMS in my car will under report the actual pressure anywhere between 1-1.5 psi. I find these cars like to be in that 31-33 psi range, in general.

Auhm..... Okay.... Just a small sidenote: Well one needs to also think about what kind of driving one will do, before lowering the pressure. Example: Lower the pressure will also give more flex in the tire and work up the heat when driving highspeed or turning the wheels alot (read: driving on a race track). It may very well end up with a lot higher pressure in the end...

That said, I run my MS PS4S just 0.1 lower than recommended....

So, update, I have decided to go with the FF. The GTC I was looking at had some weird front bumper shrinkage happening and my OCD just can't take that type of impact. Has anyone here with a GTC seen front bump[er shrinkage, Im assuming it is from the sun? Also, can't tell if the lower valance is supposed to have that wave like that, haven't seen that in other GTC's?

Believe I found a 2014 FF and trying to seal the deal, so fingers crossed that this one actually works. The good thing is that the spec on this car is amazing and has everything I want, so very happy about that. Patience is needed but not always the easiest..lol.

Check out the picture of the front bumper.

This is an optical illusion that you wont see in person unless you wear polarized lenses. To some extent they will all look like this in pics/ with polarized lenses.

nice! If this happens we will have to get the FFs together! When does your car arrive? I spoke to intercity today and they were giving out a 4 week window.

Other thing is I put together a plan. I'll start in the FF, then move to the GTC when the prices drop and then onto the PS when they are widely available 6-7 years from now.
