Hi! For the track event at No Problem Raceway, are there any requirements other than a helmet? That's all that's been mentioned in anything I've received so far. Nomex suit? Long sleeve cotton shirt? Or can I drive in a bathing suit? Nomex shoes? Leather shoes? Sandals? Helmet SA95? Is M95 okay? Bicycle helmet? Any noise restrictions? 120dB? 100dB? 93dB? Any tech inspections on the cars required? Fire extinguishers required? Minimum size? Gotta pack soon! All that I can figure out that's required is some sort of helmet and a tux. Thanks,
Brian, in the letter all registrants have/will receive(d), the following is stated: "The Ferrari French Quarter Classic is only a week away and John and i cannot wait for the fun to begin. i would like to remind you of a few important items which will help make this weekend most enjoyable. Registration, blah blah blah... If you have a trailer yadda yadda yadda... For any Concorso questions, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera... Most importantly, please have your car checked and FULLY GASSED UP upon arrival. Friday morning we will be police-escorted to the track (80 FUN miles) and cannot stop en route. Oh and don't forget your helmet!!"
The track day is run pretty loose. A helmet is all that is required. Guess you could drive naked as long as you have on a helmet. Noise restrictions- ALL cars must exceed 110dB. Otherwise you're not trying hard enough. It's in a rural area- you won't bother anybody with noise. No tech inspections. No fire extinquishers- the flag marshalls I believe are now all trained in fire fighting.
LOL... You down south guys are a riot... Kelly, i have an extra bow tie; let me know, we can both go shirtless with bow ties...
How loose is "loose"? I instruct in PCA. I can tell you that folks without specific track training and experience, when unleashed upon the track in a high performace car with no real supervision tend to do two things: Spin and Crash. Just because you can drive on the street and have a drivers license and you know how to mash the gas pedal to the floor does not mean your ready to push your F355 to its limits. Are there going to be run groups? Will people be assigned to different groups based on experience? Car type? Or is it really just a free for all? If its a free for all.... I doubt my Daytona does very many laps, but I expect to have a GREAT time spectating and shooting video of the carnage! Terry
Brian, you're going to be transported back to a simpler time at the FFQC. Back to a time when car guys got together just to have fun. Nobody feels the need to prove that they are a swinging dick. The concours is all about looking at everybody's else car and telling each other lies. Hell, last year, Malcomb didn't even clean the bugs off his Daytona. Yes, there will be run groups. Yes, the corner workers are very well trained. Yes, NPR is a very tight technical track. You can pull a goober at any track. But to do one here, you have to really work at it. Like Dave did last year. Bascially, the whole event is premised on the assumption that all of us are adults who just want to have fun. We all have some experience in getting around. We all recognize that Ferraris are expensive play toys and that banging metal will take the fun out of it for everybody. What you are not going to have is a bunch of spoil sports running around getting into everybody's face because they are on a power trip. This is not Monterey. This is not even TWS. This is a small, but experienced, group of car guys getting together to have some fun. Let da good times roll, my friend! Dale
Cool! Sounds like what I was expecting... but I didn't want to get there and realize I missed something and wouldn't be able to run. My poor Stradale has not been gettin' enough exercise recently!
And there WILL be bathroom facilities this year. Last year some people,(who shall rename nameless, mostly because I can't remember WHO!![get it?]), decided to stop their car right at the apex of turn 9 and take a leak,so to speak, right on the track!!!! <sigh> Boy the nerve!! Seriously though, the weather will be spectacular!! Looking forward to many laps and maybe a few in some Stradale's! And don't worry everybody, I'll be sure to see to it that Carbie is FULLY dressed for the event. (Can't do much for Kelly though, sorry Charlie) I have a VERY thorough checklist from "Don" Wellington! Dave
Yeah, but we don't really call them "gators" till they hit 8 feet. Till then we usually let the kids play with them. Dave
LOL! No, there was a car that went off into the water...it was SLIMED man! You wearin' that outfit this weekend????
i'm bringing the goggles and the skull cap; not sure if i'll be wearing them... Guess i just need a reason...
McFlarbon, if you put that head gear on in my car during the drive down to the Big Easy I just may strap you to the roof!
Beware of the trailing throttle oversteer... It hasn't rained much around here lately. I wouldn't expect off course excursions to be to messy right now.
Are they rolled up in that picture???? THAT"s the one I was remembering...........THANKS! My head passed the Snell Testing without a helment back in '82, but the headache lasted several years afterwards........... They make us use a full face DOT rated skid lid now, even racing the karts!!!!!! You can't spend too much money on your helment...Amanda picked one off the top shelf that "matched the kart"........an Air Flow Shoei Adult XXSmall worth almost $500.00.....thankfully it had a little scratch so we reached an 'out of the box" price!
Tex, you ever race karts at NPR? I've been to quite a few events racing a 125cc shifter, just wondering if I may have seen you there. I know a lot of guys from Houston come down every year for the regional races.
