Just another way the FIA is trying to make everything spec. Now there probably won't be a 1/18 model of this car for me to buy. I was seriously looking forward to it.

I'm glad, they were freaking ugly in the first place. Besides that what if something came off another car and knocks one of those things off right into the drivers face........

    here's the scoop on it . . .

Any object that may interfere with the driver's vision will be banned from now on.

In an advisory note to all teams last Sunday, the FIA said: "In view of recent developments to bodywork forward of the cockpit opening on some cars, we have become concerned that these devices may impair the forward and/or lateral vision of the driver.

"Therefore, under Article 2.3 of the F1 Technical Regulations, unless any team concerned can clearly demonstrate to the satisfaction of the technical delegate and the stewards that their driver's vision is not impaired in any way by such devices, no bodywork higher than the top of the front roll structure will be permitted forward of it."

The statement in effect bans BMW's wing elements, although smaller parts such as antennae or pitot tubes are not affected.

So, basically they didn't want a field of ant like cars with mandibles sprouting in odd places because they look fugly.

Hey FIA, why not call a spade a spade? The drivers didn't have trouble with them. There's enough b.s.ing in the world already.

FIA should mount a camera in the cockpit where the drivers head would be, and pan it side to side. Have a panel decide on how much view is obstructed.
I'm not sure the ban was entirely for driver "visibility" reasons.

Those appendages were a visual assault. The FIA was just protecting our aesthetic sensitivities.

I didn't realize driver vision was so important to the FIA. I guess we won't have races in the rain any more; with cars nose to tail at speed driving through an impossible spray...

The FIA already solved that. Parade lap racing with no passing so the field spreads out. :D Ouch, I can't believe I said that about my favorite sport. :(

Considering the cars' leisurely performance at Magny-Cours, they obviously weren't of much technical benefit. I generally don't like add-on appendages like that, but I kinda like McLaren's "viking horns", especially on Kimi's car!

BMW Sauber is set to debut yet another aerodynamic innovation at Hockenheim, according to reports.

A fortnight after the Hinwil-based team ran the radical 'twin towers' at Magny Cours, Blick in Switzerland has published a photograph of Nick Heidfeld steering Honda-like winglets, situated alongside the cockpit, at Jerez last week.

Unpainted, the two wings, however, did just a single lap of the Spanish circuit before Heidfeld returned to the pit lane.

"I exited the garage with more parts than when I returned," he smiled.

It just shows how incompetent the FIA is: one race they accept it, then they change their mind and ban it.
What kind is series F1 is becoming?
It is supposed to be 'the pinacle of motorsport' (sic) and it is a 'pony and dog show' with Mosley at the helm.
I have never see so many rule changes, indecisions, u-turns, rushed regulations and constant interference in my last 45 years of watching motor racing.
Now I understand why people prefer NASCAR; at least, you know where you stand...
