I'm making a separate thread for this as undoubtly it'll be a HUGE talking point all season. I think we'll see a reshuffle of teams especially midpack. Alpine will move forward I expect. Mercedes to fall back and likely Ferrari as well. FIA takes steps to reduce porpoising in the interests of safety | Federation Internationale de l'Automobile
I doubt Mercedes and Ferrari will fall back. Surprised the FIA did'nt use RedBull as an example. "They fixed it!!!" "Why can't you guys!!!"
With a maximum bouncing per time/distance, Ferrari will have to raise their ride height. Ferrari cleverly remained silent on the bouncing matter as they are competitive and knew this would be one of the likely outcomes if complaining about bouncing. Ferrari has a enough of a gap to 3rd that they'll still finish 3-4th in the race but will likely lose their saturday advantage.
This is all for the bidding of Mercedes. Hey Pirelli, the tires don't suit our car......can you change them to suit our car please. Thank-you.
Yep. Time and time again. Don't think ferrari will send Mercedes a thank you note. On the funnier side, Mercedes right now Image Unavailable, Please Login
From amus : We've got our hands on TD039 & tell you all the details. New porpoising limits will be set before FP3. If a team can't supply a setup deemed to be safe, they have to raise ride by 10mm. Cars will be disqualified. if still above the limits.
I really hope this is the case. I saw a graphic the other day showing Merc with the highest accelerations or amplitudes by far over all other teams. Also, since they’re slamming the car down on the the planks harder they will be more at risk from the closer scrutiny of the the planks, I think.
Mercedes are not the cause of this. Drivers have spoken up and clearly from most teams. Maxipad was supportive in the Drivers Meetings. Sorry its just F1. RedBull will now fully dominate. The no proof blame club here says Mercedes LOL. POST PROOF.
Yup. I think they'll fall back significantly. Alpine and mclaren to move forward, sauber as well perhaps?
This year will be interesting now behind RedBull. Just a mid pack battle swap of teams. The only true competition is Max vs Checo. Thats all thats left.
Well I think after Hamilton's best "performance" to date... him feebly trying to get himself out of his car into the awaiting wheelchair to be pushed to the medical chopper was the last nail in the coffin. When I saw that, I knew it was only a matter of time. So here we are. It's sort of like it's always been, when the wrong team or drivers are winning, there's this very predictable way that F1 has a way of stepping in and "fixing" the "problem." The whole thing is a bit at odds with George hopping out of the car with a smile on his face showing zero physical impairment on the podium in contrast to his teammate... in the same car... who looked something like a scene from Buggs Bunny where the Coyote slams into a rock face at several hundred miles per hour than falls another few miles hitting several large boulders all the way to the canyon floor. I'm obviously being sarcastic here, and I'm certainly not a Lewis hater... I just admire his theatrics.
^^^ Lewis is 10 years older, his car was running a different aero package than George's...no excuses, just facts.
Yes I hear you, but why is it always Hamilton who seems to have the worst set up ? Has be become the sacrificial lamb at Mercedes this year ?
It was predicted that with each new technical rule change one team will crack it immediatly and the other teams will take time to catch up. The testing restrictions and the budget cap only make it worse. So if we have a Red Bull domination for years and Max collecting 6 titles, one can say: "I told you ! "
Because they've been the most incompetent in dealing with the porpoising. Basically, they've admitted they're going to cripple their drivers if they don't dial back performance to control the vertical G-forces, as they can't eliminate the effect without loss of performance. However, they'd like to make sure that they can point to an external regulation rather than take it upon themselves to reduce performance as that's more face-saving and might also marginally slow down the competition at the same time. Teams such as Red Bull look like they have it under control already and will continue to dominate. All the best, Andrew.
Newey and his aerodynamicists team are just amazing, that’s it. I don’t believe more ressources allowed poor engineers teams to be smarter. David Sanchez is a brilliant aerodynamicist but he isn’t responsible for an unreliable PU as soon as his work has no impact on the cooling.
My wag... This will slow merc more. RB will rocket to the front of every grid. They will then be able to turn down engines and increase reliability. Ferrari will not be in fight with RB but the next team down.
