I am servicing, cleaning, renewing my 1968 Fiamm Road Master horn compressor. Looks like a model MC/1, 12v with the candy red trumpets and such. I pulled the top 3 oval head machine screws with the help of an impact driver. Taking the top off exposes the rotor and three vanes and of course the end of the armature shaft, also you see the brass air filter screen and cotton wick material with a spring used as a holddown device for the cotton wicking.

    Question is as follows:
There is a half round key slot in the rotor, there is a half round key slot in the shaft, but this unit has nothing as a "key" to keep the rotor locked to the shaft. What is the correct key or locking element?

anyone familiar with the pieces of this Fiamm compressor shaft and rotor?
    Thanks
    Craig

There is a small ball bearing that sits in that oval slot. You can buy hammertone paint at Home Depot for the outside unless it was black crinkle finish. You can get that from Eastwood.

Thanks f355spider, Vintage V12 and 330gt, i was hoping it was simple. I can handle that! The round slot measures 4mm diameter and the ball makes sense. i was concerned there might be a softer shear key that might be used to keep from damaging the shaft. The size and shape of the groove looks designed for a single ball.
    Thank you

The ball bearing is the first thing to get lost. I forgot to mention, you can get a new fiamm round babdge from Parker Hall. Check out www.tomyang.net for contacts. These compressors like lots of oil....

Thanks for the help on this. i did order a 4mm ball bearing along with an assortment of other from a great seller on ebay - bobhill5. To make a sensible order, i just asked for 5ea of several sizes that fit shift linkage, Webers, Fiamm and he came back with $5 paypal incl shipping. My best ebay deal in a while!

The top disc on my compressor is not the same as early Fcars, which seem to have the Parker Hall replacement type. i need the udder one. Anybody got a clue as to where to find?

Also there is a stamped number on this aluminum disc......anybody have an explanation of what it is? I am using a small picture here but this number is always stamped near the d in Road Master. Mine seems to be 8D, but could be more.

Also, has anyone scraped off or removed this disc? it appears to be a separate piece....does it remove?
    any help is great
