Fiat boss Sergio Marchionne destroyed his red 189,000 Euro Ferrari 599 GTB on the Swiss motorway near Basle. Luckily, nobody was hurt in this accident.

According to a police report, Marchionne drove on the left lane with a speed of about 100 km/h (60 mph) when several cars in front of him suddenly slowed down. Marchionne was not able to stop in time and crashed into the crash barrier. His car was heavily damaged.

its so depressing, you see a car that had so much time and effort put into it and its just crushing to see it disposed like it was nothing....truly disapointing to see. you think of all the people who would die for these cars and then you see one ruined. frustrating.

Certainly not paying attention. I would think if he was really only going 60 and the cars in front of him stopped suddenly IF he as paying attention the 599 shouldnt have any problem slowing.

Glad hes not hurt though. People may be irresponsible and sometimes plain stupid but they generally dont deserve to get hurt/die over it.

it looks like the car absorbed the impact quite well. no idea what speed the car actually made impact, but the crush zones appear to have worked nicely.

CEO's of multi-Billion $ companies should not be driving themselves. Most CEO's have far to many things on their mind. Besides a security guard, they usually have their own driver. For security reasons, the cars are usually high end, specially constructed, but plain jane vehicles so as to not draw attention. Today. a CEO is vulnerable to many sources of resentment etc. The BoD should yank his license and his Ferrari

So a high performance Ferrari just cannot stop as fast as a normal car?

Either he was going much faster than 60, wasn't paying attention, or both.

That's absurd. If he wants to drive great cars around, then he should.

That's a very unfortunate mishap. Unfortunately, fingers are against him in the fact that he probably wasn't paying attention to the utmost potential.

Glad he was more fortunate than his 599 :(

Hmm okay, then perhaps he should have paid more attention. 100 km/h in 120 km/h with a car like that (the brakes etc.) is PRETTY safe. I don't know the whole story behind this accident, but it is getting slippery all over the continent these days and if he had his stock summer tyres on he might have lost grip when breaking.
