    Hello all,

Even if I don´t have a Ferrari, just a Fiat Dino Coupe 2,4, some technical problems are as is known the same. particularly the ignition system and the ignition coil are making problems.
After few years in a barn, I try to bring my Fiat Dino back on street.
The body and the mechanic is okay but there is no power at the distributor.
It seems to be original and very old 4-point ignition coil magneti marelli BZR 205 A.
Does anybody know if this original ignition coil is anywhere available in this world or is there an alternative coil which can be used ?
If not, what can I do to use a "normal" coil ? Is it really necessary to switch the old Dinoplex AEC 101 into a new Bosch system or is there a possibility to change the wiring for using a normal coil with the original Dinoplex ACE 101 ?

This problem isn´t quite new for this system and in this forum it´s written an article about alternative ignition systems. Does anybody have experience and does it seam to be reasonable to change in a Bosch system ?

    Thank you for help

Try the Dinoplex in "emergency" mode by flipping the switch and see if that makes any difference, then test for power at the coil and change it, they are easily available.

I changed out my Dino to a MSD with a optical instead of points for a while, back to points now. All the parts are easily available from Ricambi (my first choice) and also IAP (International Auto Parts).

You need to trace back to where you lose the power, these cars are getting old and after sitting in a barn for a few years it would easily be possible a rodent chewed some wires, so work your way back until you find power before swapping out anything.

I've also seen Bosch (blue) coils used in the 3x8 cars...

    Hello Thomas,

as Mike posted, the first thing you should try is to set the Dinoplex to "Emergenza" mode and see if it works then. If so, the coil and wiring should be ok but the Dinoplex might be defective. If it is not working in either Normale or Emergenza mode, then either the +12V and ground wiring is at fault, or the coil or king wire to the distributor needs to be checked.

The Marelli BAE 202B coil is the only compatible replacement for a BZR205A. Install it using the original BZR205A coil clamp/resistor and wire an additional 1Ω Resistor in line with the BZR205A resistor (e.g. wire it between the Dinoplex 'A' wire with the yellow marker and the BZR205A resistor terminal 'A').

    Best,
    Adrian
