    this my be a stupid question but is the transmission gearbox in the 246 the same as the fiat dino ??

    do you mean internally? Like the gear ratios are the same, or the synchros are interchangeable?

    Fiat Dino is inline, Ferrari dino is transversely mounted. I don't know about how many if any parts are swappable. I can't find a photo of a 246GT drivetrain, but here's a fiat dino DT.

    A quick look at Superformance.co.uk doesn't seem to have any interchangeable part numbers. but I only spent a minute or two looking at bearings.

    The 2.0 FIAT Dino gearbox is a highly modified FIAT 2300 gearbox, they added a 5th to it by adding a extension to the gearbox. The actual guts are not from a 2300 either, just the housing and some parts are from the 2300, the rest is Dino only.

    For the FIAT 2.4 the gearbox was built by ZF specially for the Dino.

    Its safe to assume no internal parts will work even if the gear ratios were the same which I doubt, the gears themselves would be different.

    FIAT Dino 2.0 gear ratios : 1st, 3.096, 2nd, 1.825, 3rd, 1.351, 4th, 1.00, 5th, 0.871, reverse 2.889
    FIAT Dino 2.4 gear ratios : 1st, 2.991, 2nd, 1.763, 3rd, 1.301, 4th, 1.00, 5th, 0.874, reverse 3.670

    I have no idea how that compares to Ferrari Dino ratios but it is very safe to assume that you will not find any parts that interchange.
