At the risk of being stonned.... Does anyone know if it's readily possible (or even within reason) to do a modern engine conversion on either Alfa or Fiat spyder (70-80's)? My wife wants a fun little summer convrt car, and I don't want to do the usual Z3, Miata, etc route. She's not that great with manual & the metro area is full of hills...looking to do an auto transplant into an italian classic?? Flame suit on =) Thanks.
Check out www.alfabb.com. They have a thread on an Alfa Spider V8 conversion (and, if I remember correctly, another on a slightly less audacious swap) http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/showthread.php?t=16373&highlight=engine+swap
Some of the '70s Alfa sport sedans came with auto trannys, attached to the same 2L L4 engine the Spiders used. They're pretty clunky though -- as are pretty much all ATs. As for using a manual gearbox on hills -- heel&toe. (And handbrake.) (How do you get to Carnage Hall?)
""As for using a manual gearbox on hills -- heel&toe. (And handbrake.) "" Obviously you haven't met my wife. Great athlete on hard courts, but grace and coordination on anything other than a flat surface is questionable at best =)
The '92/'93 ALFA SPYDER VELOCE came with an Auto Tranny option, very rare and hard to find though. My friend had a beautiful yellow one. I used to own a silver one, 5spd though..... Check this link, this automatic one is available, and its about 10 minutes away from my house!! http://www.carpages.ca/go/Listing/22114.aspx
