I just received my spare tire retainer bolt for my 76 308. I go to put it in and find there's no place for it to screw into... I recently found out that only the 76 model had a zippered vinyl cover for the spare, the zipper is currently busted on mine. Did the fiberglass car have the retaining bolt at all or did they just have the vinyl cover?
I took the car out for a drive today and really let it stretch its legs. I noticed at the top of 3rd after 5500rpms it started missing. I kept running it through to redline and it kept missing. Shifted to 4th still full throttle, and it did it again at about 6000 through redline. Is it worth it to have the point redone, or go with the Forza ignition? The car was pulling really strong and then felt sluggish and was surging about 6000rpms, I feel like im loosing out on a lot of power up there.

I would check the points and readjust. Mine has the single distributor and revs to 7500RPM fine. As for the spare, the 77 euro glass cars also have the zippered flap with a minispare rather than the full size US version. My boxer has no hold down either and no provisions for one.

My 1976 fiberglass GTB has no hold down bolt or provision for one. I agree with Paul. Your distributors and points need adjustment.

The early '77 GTB steel cars have a zipper cover as well.

My '76 fibreglass has the zip cover and a wheel retaining strap to hold it down. There is a metal bracket that the strap goes through on the bottom of the wheel well. Being a UK model it has the small 'get-you-home spare'.

Another thing to check re the ignition misfire are the plug extenders. Mine were all over the place, some open circuit, high resistance or dead short. They should measure about 1200 ohms but if they're all about the same and less than 2k they're probably ok. IIRC there are black ones which are non-resitive and red ones which are. After replacing mine and resetting the points my misfire went away and it revs right up the range in all gears.

For the broken zipper the best thing to do would be to remove the cover and take it to a place that does custom boat upolstery. I did that on my trunk cover and got a heavy-duty marine grade zipper installed for $30.

Like Paul says, check the plug extenders and ignition wires as well as the points and timing advance. Points require maintenance but they are quite good when all is well. Car should redline no problem.
