Lol, this has not happend to me yet, hope it wont ... Getting Gas in a Ferrari 360 Modena - YouTube Sorry if this has been posted earlier
Lol...I wish I could have taped me filling up yesterday. The guy across from me was practically yelling at me for not taking the car to the track.
Someone should do a video of the tribulations of doing a capless-tank fuel fill on a 458 in California. Some pumps just cannot be made to work.
I agree...On my delivery I was shown how to adjust the fuel nozzle in case it didn't seal correctly on the capless-tank, but of course that didn't work. I have since figured out some nozzles just don't work on 458's in California and to keep the tank above half full just in case.
I have found that if the nozzle doesn't work, what I have to do is pull the seal cap away from the car, while holding the nozzle. This defeats the vapor suction of the nozzle, but triggers the switch that lets the pump think the nozzle is fully inserted so gas will flow. Takes two hands, one to push the nozzle in, and the other to pull back in the opposite direction on the seal. I haven't had fuel gush out (yet) when the tank is full, and the pump has always automatically turned off when full, as normal, but I still look away from the nozzle when having to fuel this way, just in case. It's a pain, but seems to work.
Have not met a pump that has resisted me yet, just gotta master the technique that said as of late I tend to get my gas at the same station every time (the only one offering 100 aki fuel in the area )
Filled mine today, guy pulls on next to me and starts filling his (what I later found out) brand new R8 v10 plus.. Anyway, he starts by comparing 0 to 200 km/h times, and hp, mpg, gear box ect ect... saying he would love to meet on the track, all the time keep reminding me that his is the v10 plus version... I finally look over and say "Yea, the R8 is a nice car, looked at buying one for a long time, but decided not too due the fact that it looks too much like a TT".... After which he drove off..
This is exactly what you have to do when filling a motorcycle in CA, too. Lord, how I hated doing that. It's probably illegal there, too.....
Wow, I would never lean against any of my cars like that guy while getting fuel. For the 458, its always a bit of challenge for me not to slip the metal nozzle before putting into the neck. Never had any overflow, but did buy one of these protective rubbers flaps, just in case. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You know how to hurt a guy. I have driven the V10 R8. The biggest problem was that the transmission was just awful. I understand that they have finally put in a DCT.
+1 Just be sure to pull the seal cap hard enough and any pump will work Another one of those pet peaves (a la having to plug in the battery tender) which make owning an Fcar so special!
One time a guy looked over at my car and then tried to sell me a case of frozen steaks. He said if they didn't fit the trunk, he'd follow me to my house and drop them off. Really, I guess people think Ferrari owners are both rich and naive. Or maybe it's just me, but that's never happened to me when filling up any other car! The most amazing thing to me in the OP's video is the guy who decided he would just open the door and feel the leather.
OK, I'm new to the 458 but yesterday I had to seriously fight with a pump in London to fill the car to the point where I thought I was going to bust the filler mechanism on the car. What's the point of the silly design? I thought filling an F40 was pain (mustn't fill beyond 75%) but the stress to fill my Speciale beats it. Pain in the ass.
In Australia had a problem filling my 458 Spider - had to jiggle the nozzle all the time and filled very slowly. That was until I discovered if you just turn the pump nozzle sideways and put it in the tank then it fills up normally - not sure why that is but it has worked fine every time ever since. David
